boooooooooo rangers LETS GO PENS!!!! on a hot streak right now.....and still waitning for Dennis to trade me Crosby in our fantasy league
The Caps are 1 point out of 1st place in their division at the All-Star break and with 34 games to go in the season. They finished the first half of the season by splitting with Toronto a back-to-back series. Their coach had never coached a game in Toronto but his family is from there and he played for the Maple Leafs for a very short while. (He also had a bit part in 'Slapshot'). He had 40 friends and family going to see the first game in Toronto. His mom refused to go to the game, she watched on tv from home. If the Caps had won both games they'd have claimed first place in the division (after being last in the entire league). They have the top goal-scorer, top D goal-scorer, and #2 rookie points scorer. Here is ESPN's article inspired by the game you missed Monday. The Caps and Penguins are the winningest teams in hockey in January. Read from #2 on: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?columnist=buccigross_john&id=3208406 Backstrom is much better than they give him credit for. He is smart, talented, and a clutch player. Alex Semin is not mentioned. He scores the niftiest goals on the team (has made SportsCenters Top 10 plays twice this year). He spent the first part of the season injured.
And that's why I'm not a fan of the new playoff format. Washington who is first in their division (1 point back, but two games in hand) lost to the worst team in our division (The leafs), but would still make the playoffs if this was the end of the year.
i too hate the playoff system, just because u lead the poor excuse of a division southeast does not mean u should automatically get a #3 seed, u have second and even 3rd place teams in the atlantic and northeast who have a better record than 1st place southeast and the highest they can get is a 4 seed also dont like how the games are played nowadays (although they r changing for next year) it is not necessary to play the same team 8 times in a season, each team should play each other at least once, its turning into football almost for ex the canadiens bruins will play each other 8 times in the season but then the canadiens may not play the la kings for 2 years
Also agree, with exception to Habs vs Bruins. It's the oldest rivalry in the NHL and the more times the Habs and Bruins play each other, the better! I just don't see why we have to waste our time playing the leafs 8 times in a season. There definitely has to be more east vs west games just to keep a higher interest level in the western teams.
oh i know that waste, im not sayin i wouldnt want to see them play it was the first team that popped into my head merely using them as an example, but ya the habs play so few teams from the west i was watching the all star game sun and when they were announcing the western all stars some of them i was like who? not having east west face each other more makes us not even bother to pay attention to the west
Michael, Was at the game last night to watch your Caps get shut out from a team that hasn't managed a shut out since Oct. Not only a shut out, but we also managed a short handed 3 on 5 break that resulted in a short handed goal. If you guys can beat Carolina once, you'll be better seated in the playoffs than us. We fall 5 points, we might not even make the playoffs even though we'll be 6 points above the Caps. I'm not bashing the Caps, just the playoff seating system.
