Colin, don't go necking valiums for a long-haul flight (unless you are afraid of flying and need to calm your nerves). Go to your GP and he'll prescribe a sleeping tablet or two, knocks you out and you wake up fully rested on the other side. It's a long bitch of a flight over there - bring plenty of stuff to read and some playing cards and portable games.
Thanks for the welcoms and the info, been really helpful. I'm interested in Isla Mujeres, is this like a whole seperate island ? Is it far away from Cancun ? (Sorry for my ignorance, i'm totally cluless when it comes to anything outside of the E.U.) Sounds like i'll be missing out on the car rental, sounds like everything I need is within Cancun.
Yes it is a separate island just off Cancun. Take the ferry to get there and you'll be there in a jiff. They also have "booze cruies" that take you thre and include various activities (such as snorkling and parasailing) for a nice day out of your resort.
