well it's my first time as well and from what i can tell is TTR is built towards middle age couple's and single's .as from all the help i have read in pm land ps on a side note i can never understand why people have to answer a simple question with a smartass comment hmm trying to be funny
First I would have to ask if you consider yourself and your wife to be "open minded and free at heart" These things are what will make or break you time at TTR, I went last year for my first time with my now ex and there was a good time had by both. She was what you call a little more reserved and would enjoy a book by the quiet pool while myself was up for anything and everything TTR had to offer. The motto "no one knows you and no one gives a shit" is what you should look forward to if you choose this certain resort. With that said if you are looking for a vacation that is anything but ordinary I say as would 99% of the others here- Temtation is the place! :cooldevil: :cooldevil: :cooldevil:
Very well said! that is what we are counting on! this is going to be a LONG month! Cant wait to get there!
Less of the sarcy remarks please, not the best way to encourage a new member to hang around. Actually, I feel it a valid question for this forum since if anyone has stayed at both then this is most likely where you'll find them. We do have a specific thread for the Golden Parnassus where you can ask for the flipside view: http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8434 and also previous discussions of the same topic can be found at the links below. http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39050 http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37379 http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26423
you would be surprised at some of the negative comments this resort gets in other review sites and forums, I have been defending TRS to the hilt, even though i havent been there yet, it was nice to find a site where people are positive about the place and that is the kind of things we were looking for after we had booked, so looking forward to getting there and letting our hair down ( not that I have any im bald ) but you get the point! from what i have seen this site is full of people that are looking to have a good time, as we are! and we cant wait to get to the resort and have a few drinks with any of you that are going to be there when we are
We have never stayed anywhere else but tempations, next May will be trip # 10, I know I wouldn't enjoy anywhere else ,and I can't believe you could fine a friendlier place in all of Cancun. Terry
I would strongly suggest that you do some research on your own before you book your vacation BUT I would add that my wife and I have been to to Cancun 13 times with the last 8 being TTR (formally Blue Bay Getaway, and we have trip #9 booked for May) We simply love the place and have great friends there that we meet up with each year. If you are looking for a 5 star resort with all the bells and whistles, then TTR is probably not he place for you. So if you are looking for a luxury type vacation you should probably look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you are looking for party central, if toplessness does not bother you, if adult humor does not bother you, and you are tolerant of people from all walks of life then you would likely enjoy TTR. Again, its not the finest resort in Cancun but in my opinion it is the most fun and some of the best people in the world go there!! Whatever you decide...I hope you enjoy your vacation!!
Ok, because my first post on this thread was flippant and useless, here's a useful post for you. Have to agree with the above poster - it's definitely a "you need to evaluate what it important to you" type of experience. We too have been to a number of places from extremely elegant (Riu Palace in Riviera Maya) to "middle of the road" (Barcelo Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana) to "run down and nasty" (Breezes Nassau) and places in between. Of them all, I would rate things at Temptations (it was BBG branded when we were there) as follows: 1) Location: "eh, not so much" - on the positive side, it is on the calm side of the Cancun Hotel zone (the "upper leg of the seven"), and it is an easy ride from the airport. Beyond that, it's in a run down part of the Cancun hotel zone. That said, we walked out the front door of the resort all of four times while there. The beach side is much better than the street side. 2) Facilities: Definitely "3 star" not "five star" - the rooms are nice, and from what I hear the room makeovers last year definitely helped things quite a bit. But the buildings don't have elevators, the resort is a little hard to navigate, etc. That said, everything is clean and in generally good repair - I've seen MUCH worse (Breezes Bahamas ...) but also MUCH better. That said, my feeling is as long as things are clean and functional, it's fine with me. 3) Food: Again, I'd put this as "functional" in the buffets, although the speciality restaurants are decided very good and have great service. The buffet food does the job, but it's not what you come for for sure. 4) Alcohol: Fun is the key, the blender drinks are delicious and everything else sucks. The beer on tap is Dos Equis ("XX") Lager, which is fine, but gets a bit old drinking the same beer all week long - add a lime to improve the flavor, and but getting a proper martini or a good whiskey on the rocks doesn't happen. Oh well ... 5) Pool: Ok, here's where this resort rocks. First of all, architecturally, both the quiet pool and the sexy pool are pretty ingenious and fantastic for just hanging around (or "bobbing around" if you're a topless woman) - there are long steps for lounging, a "no depth" area where the water is 2" deep for just hanging and being wet, embedded whirlpools, an "island", swim up bars, the works. Perfect for spending the day. And beyond the architecture, the sexy pool is the pulsepoint of the resort - it is the point of the resort, it is the soul of the resort, in my opinion. Even if all we did every day was hang in there all day and then go to dinner and to bed, it would be a perfect vacation. 6) Beach: The beach is "passable" - as in either it is acceptable or "take a pass" depending on if you're a beach person. My wife and I love beaches, but we rarely went on this one as it wasn't what we like. But the pool was fanatstic all day, every day. 7) Staff: The staff, overall, was very good when we were there - the entertainment staff was the "old" group led by Chinos and Lalo, with the girl being Alejandra, not the current bunch, but it was great. And the bar staff, waitstaffs, etc all were hard working - tip them well! And finally: 8) The people: It is the people that visit and that you meet that make the resort the place everyone on this chat board love to talk about. We just plain had a blast there because of the people we met while we were there. From the first 30 minutes we were there (when we found out our room wasn't ready, we went out to the sexy pool for a beer. After 30 minutes I went back in to check again at the desk, and it wasn't ready, so I went back out. In that moment, my wife had been befriended by a couple at the bar and was sitting at a bar stool next to them in her jeans skirt with her shirt and bra folded up on the bar next to her! Love that place!) to the last day, it was the people that made the place. Now the cautions: 1) If nudity at all causes you concerns, not the place for you. Not saying everyone is running around naked, but toplessness is definitely commonplace and it's not unusual to occasionally see the bottom half as well momentarily during a game or something. 2) If "beautiful people" are what you are looking for, forghedaboudit! This place is for "regular people" and we regular people are a mix of fat, thin, lumpy, smooth, sexy, not so sexy, white, black, Asian, Indian, Hispanic, European, etc. A broad melting pot of loveable goofballs being their "regular" selves. We are all beautiful in every single way ... (Sorry Christina Aquilara) ... but not in the "usual" way. 3) If opulent architecture and every convenience is expected, again forget it. Think fun and functional, not opulent and a showpiece. The pictures you take home will generally NOT be of the buildings. 4) If you are a steadfast beach person, again, not the place for you. There's nothing terribly wrong with TTR's beach, but not much right with it either. 5) If you are easily offended, or worried about political correctness, again, forget this place. There's your useful info - make your own judgement. Best, Stew
Hi guys, You'll be pleased to know that at least the martinis are better - perfect no but the Appletinis aren't half bad and you even get a martini glass - a large one at that lol. Beck and Cliff
<HIGHHORSE> Ah but here's where one of my highly-held opinions kicks in ... In My Humble Opinion (or IMHO, for short), a PROPER martini has just the following incredients: 1) Quality gin or vodka - in my case a wide range of vodkas from Smirnoff or Skye on the low end to Grey Goose or nicer on the high end. Not "flavored". For Gins - anything from Beefeater on up to a variety of different "boutique" gins available. 2) White vermouth - while I'm a little less brand-specific than many of my martini-swilling friends, Noilly & Pratt is by far the good one, although Martini & Rossi and others suffice. And a garnish ... such as an olive, a blue-cheese olive, or a lemon twist. No offense intended but an Appletini (despite its name) is not a Proper Martini but is a martini-style cocktail. Nor is a Cosmopolitan or any other drink that features anything but the above ... So therefore, I'm guessing that a proper martini cannot still cannot be obtained at the resort. </HIGHHORSE>
