For those who are asking, his contact info is as follows: Sirge (sp - he's Mayan): 998.145.4176. Please let him know that I referred him...I told him I would. I'm not sure what's going on with him but I'll give a quick update. You can decide to use him, or not, for yourselves. I paid him a little extra to also do a small area in the front of my house. He came the next day and did most of it, saying he'd be back on Saturday to finish (it was the holidays). Not a problem for me. Well, Saturday came and went...that was exactly a week ago and still nothing. I've text him and he replied he'd be here again...I'm still waiting. Maybe I should be happy with a 95% completed job around here...who knows. Would I use him again? I honestly don't know. My frustration is still fresh from sitting at home for two out of the last seven days waiting for a no-show. My completed yard is not perfect, but it's great. 100% better than a few weeks ago. The price was reasonable. They had the back part (65 sq. meters) completed in one day. Perhaps I'm just too picky. I probably should be happy with what work they did do. I've since bought my own grass seed to fill in the gaps. It's done the trick but is an added expense to something I've already paid for. It's not the end of the world. I'm just waitng for my receipt...still. If you use him, maybe being more insistent that he COMPLETELY finish before leaving your sight is the trick. I was not as insistent and am slowly learning that being easy-going around here (in regards to any thing) often results in unnecessary frustration.
I am ASSuming you haven't paid him yet! It is traditional here to pay 40%-60% up front and the balance on completion. Once poeple have all the money they have zero incentive to work.
A quick update It seems Santiago lives quite far outside Cancun and runs completely on a village schedule. He does not mean to offend or frustrate, but still seems oblivious as to why it's good practice to show up when one says they will...or at least text / call when one knows they're not coming. Either way, everything in 'grass land' is fine and dandy. I chalked it up to another cultural difference...no harm done. Jim in Cancun...you seem to be having some keyboard issues. Your A.S.S. is stuck in a most unflattering position.
