CDC just released exposure guidelines if you are fully vaccinated. Basically says that if you are 2 weeks after your second dose and within 3 months of your second dose, you do NOT have to quarantine if you are exposed to a known positive person. I wonder how this will affect the travel requirements? Seems a bit counterintuitive to recommend you to quarantine when you get home if you fall into this timeframe.

Lol as usual I don’t know what the CDC just said. I fall into that category so if that’s the case why should I even be required to take a test before I get on a plane. Do I get a get out of jail card or something.

The way I see it, the issue now isn’t necessarily the restrictions or if the city is open or not or even the capacity restrictions. The issue is that people are cancelling like crazy (30% cancellations after the restrictions were implemented is what I was told) and the amount of guests there isn’t even close to what is was. When we were there last week it was probably 60% on Friday/Saturday and then dropped to 20% on Sunday and was that way the entire week. The pool was DEAD. The playmakers were doing games, especially early, by themselves. How often have you been there and gone to the pool at 2pm and could choose from half the chairs there? Right now, if you like being there when there is a crowd then a Thursday-Sunday trip is probably best. Personally I think a resort like TTR works best being close to full and the experience dwindles as the capacity is lower. The restrictions suck not because it’s a pain to get tested or even the worry about not getting back. I think that there is no reason to worry about that because you’ll get a negative test and go home on time. The restrictions are a huge issue because it’s reducing the amount of people that are traveling there and impacting the experience in that way.

I agree. My wife and I will be there 4/11-16 and luckily we are both vaccinated. Hope others will be there too!

I mentioned a few weeks ago, that early and end of Feb are quiet, but the middle two weeks are very busy. I would expect the next two weekends to be close to 100% at the hotel.

Now that we are getting to that time frame our next 4 boobs cruises are either sold out or close to it. We are having to run at 50% capacity (60 people on a 120-person capacity boat) but for some dates I have 20 people on the waiting list and have had to stop in hotel sales. Out of 11 cruises this year we have had to cancel only two due to low numbers (Jan 25 and Feb 8).

I don't think the cancellation rate for the hotel is as high as 30%. I am seeing about 10% for the Boobs Cruise, hotel reservations and airport transfers. Most of these bookings are Temptation related. Many new bookings are coming in too, from people obviously aware of the current requirements.

I do think had it not been for the C-word, we would be running the cruise 3 times a week now with almost full to full boats at regular capacity.

The problem, as I see it, is not actually the cancellation rate. It is how many people didn't book in the first place. No Canadians, no Brits, no Europeans, no Aussies, very few South Americans, fewer Mexicans and US numbers severely reduced.

That said Cancun airport still saw 700,000 arrivals in January, compared to 7,000 in April 2020.

One observation recently, I am meeting more and more people who have either had Covid already and/or been vaccinated. They are obviously not too worried about having a free test.

    Hopefully the trend continues.

Your response seems a little contradictory, but maybe I’m missing something. You start by saying that it’s full, except for a couple specific weeks, but then say that people from other countries aren’t booking in the first place and that’s the reason for the low numbers. Not sure which one it is. It’s full of Texans maybe?

I agree that the lack of Canadians(and Europeans) is very obvious and has been for quite some time. We’ve been 4 times in the last 7 months. Maybe we just got a slow week(exceptionally slow) this last trip and it’s not really like that on a regular basis, I assume Valentine’s Day is driving the numbers that you are expecting. Without the special holiday time though, what would a regular week look like? I assume it would be closer to what we experienced. When we spoke to JJ he had been saying a lot how he’s rarely seen it like this. The cancellation numbers I quoted came from someone very high up in management(not JJ). Of course it’s possible they exaggerated, but I’m not sure what the reason would be to do that. I also think that from what I’ve seen from travelers that we know that we’re going and cancelled that the numbers are pretty high, certainly seem more than 10%, but that’s anecdotal as is your estimate.

We are both hoping for the same thing though, that people start going back and these restrictions ease up a bit. I can’t wait until it’s back to the TTR we are used to.

We've had both doses of the vaccine and just hit the two week after mark. Looking forward to March 4-15. Kandi is an ICU RN and really needs the break after caring for COVID patients for a year.

Not contradictory. I said half of Feb is busy and half is quiet. I also said weekends are busier than weekdays.

If you look at a weekend during the busy period it will likely be 100% and if you look at a weekday during the quiet period then it might be like you experienced at 20-30%. Even it all out across the month, and it probably averages 50-60%.

My assessment of 10% cancellations comes from real data for the period Jan 1 - Mar 31 of 1000 cruise bookings, 300 transfers and around 50 hotel reservations. It is only a sample, but probably fairly representative.

I could agree that the hotel might be 30% down on usual figures (which would mean a usual average of 80--90%) but the point I was making is that the reduction isn't a sudden change based on cancellations, it's because many people didn't book in the first place.

The mid two weeks of Feb are busy because of the various groups that go every year - NBC, Shitshow etc. I doubt Valentine's Day has much impact. But there are groups and special holidays every month year round. March has Spring Break, a big group the middle of the month (I forget the name), then April there is Easter, Wicked Eden and April Addicts, May you have Mayhem and Memorial Day etc etc.

Of course if you go when none of these events, holidays or groups are happening then it's not going to be very busy, but if you go when they are happening it's not going to be quiet either.

I see a dislike, which has to be about the mask comment. I should have stated that mask mandates do not work. As a nurse, I know that properly worn PPE works, including masks. Look around and tell me that you see everyone wearing masks correctly. I have yet to see it, unless I walk into a facility.
