Although this particular group were there at Spring Break, I pretty much guarantee they weren't students enjoying their Easter break. Most students in the UK cannot afford foreign holidays while at University. I know I couldn't have afforded it 20 years ago and it's even worse for students these days.

More likely they will be young twentysomethings with jobs. As others mentioned there is a very big lads culture in the UK, where many peoples idea of a good time is to go on holiday with 20 of your closest mates and see who can be the most obnoxious, drink the most and have the most sex. It's lads bravado trying to outdo each other that most grow out of after they become responsible adults and settle down.

Most still go to the Med and Spain (thankfully) but Cancun has become more of a mainstream holiday in the last 5 years or so. Cancun gets more expensive every year from the UK, but holiday hotspots in the Med get even more expensive so the price difference reduces.

I think the peak time for such groups is likely to be end of May through June, after the football season has finished and before kids are off school and holiday prices generally go up. My prediction is there will be more to come.

Did anyone get the impression that TTR Los Cabos had less of a problem with groups of boys since they only had king beds in the rooms?

In January I think the groups of guys that showed up towards the end of our trip and killed the vibe of the resort were, I'm sad to say, Canadian. I don't think d-bag is a culturally specific thing.

Could be the case FreekyGeek, but remember as from May 1st TTR Cabo goes to Desire brand and becomes couples only.

Oh, and flights to Cabo are difficult and expensive from the UK :)

Cabo has its share of college-aged trouble-makers from the US - I know this because many of the college kids where I worked would go down there for spring break because it is an easy and inexpensive flight from SoCal. It would be a lot easier for us to get there from Seattle as well, but we really like Cancun so we will tough it out with the expensive flight and changing planes!

The age ban thing is a tough call, but I think singles should be over 25. The problem really would be solved better if the staff were better able to reinforce the rules they already have. I dislike well-intentioned rules that end up punishing those who are not causing the problems, and don't end up solving the initial problem anyway ... enforcing the minimum age with checking ID's would be a nice start, and kicking out obnoxious people bothering the other guests would also be helpful. Seems like most places have a "we reserve the right to refuse service" sign up - or have a things all guests have to sign saying they understand the rules and agree to their enforcement. I just dislike too many rules!

Thing is, douchebaggery isn't limited to any national origin, gender plumbing, marital situation, size of group, etc. Douche bags come in all shapes and sizes. It just tends to be that the younger wanna-be-but-never-gonna-be alpha males who haven't figured out how to channel their testosterone are the most common culprits.

An asshole is an asshole whether he or she is single, married, gathered in a group, sober, drunk, whatever. I know, cuz I tend to be an asshole.

Chose TTR precisely to avoid those kind of groups. Beginning of our trip there was a group of 5 Brits that were pretty loud when they were at the pool. No trouble other than that though.

I think Steve will agree with my (les) view on this. Young groups of American guys are cheesy and a bit flash but young groups of British guys are usually wankers, especially if they are a football crowd.
We have come across them everywhere we've gone on vacation sadly. I usually end up having words with them because I just can't tolorate it.

Once warned they are usually ok and sometimes you'll actually get to see the real men behind the provado. They are brought up thinking they way they are is fun and normal but once told they can be ok. If not just hit the biggest one and the others then behave lol

We were at TTR our first time in Dec. It was Cabo. We met some singles there who were very fun and nice. In their mid-twenties and up. All from Canada. We will be trying TTR Cancun our first time this Dec. Married couple, mid-fourties. I would feel very uncomfortable with a large group of obnoxious guys, underage, making a scene. In fact it would be something that would stop me from staying at the resort again. But hopefully at the beginning of December we won't run into that problem.

I agree that the resort should enforce the age rule. When you check-in supply a passport with your age and if you are under 21 sorry, you can't stay. And if they start enforcing the age requirement maybe the underage kids will quit booking at TTR.
