Does seem similar but enough differences to make it not a complete copy, unlike 2 other companies that have tried and not really been successful at.

My guess is free will mean it's run very cheaply and probably not great in many respects. Might have to check it out though just to see :)

    Thanks for the post.

Having been to neither, I cant comment first hand. I am planning a trip TTR in June and was somewhat swayed by the idea of GOV because of the prices and oceanview. Im back on TTR now though pending some responses from GOV.

I contacted the resort via their FB page to ask about the bars and restaurants. They all close at 1am which is a little early for us. They encourage people to go to the clubs nearby. The rooms have included mini bars and they have 24 hour room service for $15 each delivery. I asked them to clarify if there was a place to get food 24 hours besides room service and am waiting for a reply. Also, they do and will continue to charge for the in room safe like all of the oasis resorts do. This is all under the new branding starting in December.

This may not impact a lot of people choice, but it makes a huge difference in trip cost for us if everytime you want a burger at 3 am you have to drop an extra $15 and an automatic extra $35-$50 for the safe.

    Just some thoughts...

Yep! They just confirmed it too. 1 am is cutoff/closing time and after that its roomservice only till morning. You can see the chat on left side of the Oasis Viva Facebook page. Sadly, thats a deal breaker for me. It does look like it has a lot of promise, but between charging for the safe and closing down at 1am to make you go spend money at the clubs or on room service is not what im looking for.

Yup. That right there just KILLED GOV for me. That's what i LOVE about TTR is not having to leave the resort.

    Well that and the boobs.

    And the food.

    And the people.

    And the boobs.

That would be a deal-breaker for us, too.
I'm ok with walking down to get a Burger at TTR if hungry/drunk enough but 24 hour food is a must.

I like Secrets resorts, 24 hour room service. Nothing like coming back from Senor Frogs and ordering nachos and chicken wings to the room :azzangel:

I'm hearing that the minimum age for GOV when it goes to the new concept is going to be 23. That might put to rest some fears of the place being full of teenagers.

Two couples staying at TTR went for a look round today, were welcomed in and left impressed.

Hopefully, a lot of news/rumor/gossip/opinion should be coming in soon. We just need to be clear which is which.

Bars shutting at 1am would be a deal breaker for many, I'd be very surprised if that will be the case come the switchover. Cant always rely on the people who answer the customer service emails or the FB page to give the right answer..... or even understand the question half the time :)

we are going to spend a couple nights at GOV to get an idea. We have loved TTR but this year we found it really run down! Hopefully TTR will step it up!

Steve............any truth to the rumor that Paloma has gone to GOV as Director of Entertainment?
