GP Trip Report May 21-28

Bummer, I so hoped you would come back with great stories. The lighting at the bathroom sink was weird but keeping the shower light on seemed to help a lot. Shaving in the shower was hard with nothing to put your foot up on but we had plenty of water pressure on the 5th floor. I thought the drinks were to sweet but after a couple of days I started asking for double shots of liquer so I did not have to drink as much.

 

Yeah, I was on the 3rd floor, room 322 ..... sounds like the 5th floor has better pressure!

 

I noticed the lighting in the bathrooms. I just pretty much skipped the makeup. Threw on eyeliner and mascara and I was all set. Our shower has incredible water pressure but our friends had terrible pressure. I guess that was our trade off for having a room right next to the elevator. It was very noisy and I swear it sounded like there was furniture stored in the room above. We didn't really let that bother us. Also, we got the basic lagoon view room. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't pay for an ocean view. I would stick with the lagoon view. First, I don't want the sun coming in my room at the crack of dawn and second, we were not in our room often enough to justify the cost. The one and only upgrade that would be nice is the in room fridge. Over all, as far as all inclusive resorts go, I thought the food was better than most. I though Shangra La sucked and the service there was terrible. Our experience may have been isolated. We couldn't get our water glass refilled and when we asked, the waiter only refilled on glass. My husband tips well so we never had any problem waiting at any bar, regardless of the crowd and he is generally the life of the party whereas I am the one who likes to sit back and people watch. We also didn't hang at the pool. The club music sound got old. I absolutely LOVED the beach and the bar with the swings. You could find drinks you liked. You just had to work with the bar tender. Just tell him what you liked about one and what you didn't like about it and ask him to try something different. He would keep working until he made you something you liked. We would definitely go back. I ended up not being able to partake in most of the fun this trip due to being ill and almost being barred by my doctor from going at all but my husband made sure he drank our money's worth and I want to go back and join in all the reindeer games. We met tons of people. Made friends from England, Indiana, Phili, Scotland, Alabama, and South Carolina.

All in all, not a five star resort - it has a few warts but we met more people here that we had fun with and the staff was more fun. They have the BEST beach and the best beach bar of any resort I have been to. This resort gives me the opportunity to act stupid, immature, wear a bathing suit that I know I am too old to wear and do all this with my head held high because I am not alone and I fit in here

We have been to the GP over a half dozen times, and we did love it so, but have gotten on a kick of trying new resorts, and have been in Playa now the past 5 trips. The Golden has so much to offer, yet they continue to not put enough money back into the resort. We have not been back since 08, and though we miss seeing many of our friends, we feel a little cheated that many of the rooms and amenities are out dated and need fixing. Oh well, I'm sure we will be back sooner or later just to see Elmo if nothing else!!!
