Does anyone know if you can buy this anywhere in Cancun?

I need it for a recipe, I want to make an old school pud.

    Thanks for any pointers

I have never seen golden syrup anywhere here - you might be able to get something similar like a molasses or treacle of some sort.

What are you making - a sponge treacle pudding or a spotted dick?

Have you ever seen suet here?

I would love some chocolate crispie cakes, my nan used to make me those all the time, that and Marmite toasted sarnies! mmmmm

The translation for Golden Syrup is melaza (f) de caña (británico) and i reckon if you look hard enough you will get some, try Soriana, they're always a good bet or the Europa near Walmart, if not there's another supermarket that specializes in import foods, Matt went there once but can't remember where he said it was, near the new Sams Club??

Yeah you might get some sort of sugar cane syrup - there is a thing here called Piloncillo that basically comes in a solid form - which you heat and you end up with molasses of sorts - not quite Tate and Lyle but it might do.

Jim - I know it, we need a dictionary to translate all this "real" English.

As an ex-pat Brit in the U.S. I have never found a suitable equivalent to Golden Syrup. We can get it at some specialist grocery stores here. There are also several on line British food stores where you may be able to find it.

Just so you know we have funny names for things too! Don't know any of the things you are talking about but if they are high-calorie, sugar and syrup-laden sweets, then I'm willing to learn!

P.S. What is the Blue Tulum link for? I am down in that area now and passed by--was reading that Wednesday they started tearing down most of the resort--44 units I think. Too bad. I heard it was great. Here is the link: http://www.noticaribe.com.mx/rivier..._44_habitaciones_del_eurostar_blue_tulum.html
