Golden Parnassus & Spa vs. Great Parnassus

Golden Parnassus was the old Golden Crown Paradise. The Great Parnassus will be a brand new facility further south. We just got back from the Golden Parnassus.

    willing to answer questions.....

thinking of going here in September of 07. Have been to Blue Bay Getaway many times and looking for a change, this seems a bit more "quiet" from the looks of it, but like the idea of not having to make reservations for dinner....

how did you like your visit?? any pictures?

hotel was nice. bed sucked. my guess is that after the hurricane last year they bought all new mattresses and got the ones that were the hardest. didn't sleep well the whole week, and i normally sleep good on any bed....

always had hot water for a shower, but the water pressure was a little weak, but manageable. alot of the linens were worn, but i digress.....

the food and drink were typically all-inclusive. if you're a picky eater, go elsewhere. if quantity beats quality, as it does for me, you'll be in heaven. all the restaurants were fine. I have to laugh at the "fancy" restaurant...shangri-la. while they try to present an "upscale" atmosphere, long pants and dresses, they were picky about nice sandals. so i could have worn blue jeans, but sandals were frowned upon. when you ask for wine with dinner, the waiter pours a little in the glass for you to sample, you, know, swirl the glass and stick your nose in it to smell, AS IF you had a choice....wait ...you do.. red or white. it's funny. but hey, like i said, if gourmet is what you're after, you ain't getting here.

beach was very nice, ocean was way too rough to really enjoy it...red flag all week. windy....

all in all, i would go back again. I like the all-inclusive, the staff, everyone of them, was great. you never met a crabby or rude staffer. the hotel is all fixed up, everything was open. no real complaint, okay..i guess other than the sucky bed.

now i'm babbling.....we had an oceanview room on the 4th floor, nice balcony, good for smoking those house cigars before crashing for the night.

some folks complain about the "long" walk to the bus stop. unless you're afraid to walk a 1/4 mile, geez it isn't that bad.

one last thing, you'll get used to the door slamming...we attributed it to new arrivals. if you leave your room door open and then open the balcony door, WHAM!!!!!!!!! and I mean WHAM!!!!. do it once, and you'll remember. so...every time you here one slam, you'll know a door slam virgin was just "popped".

I have been doing some research lately, and it shows this hotel to have balconies in the club rooms? maybe they changed it since Wilma?
Do they give you the option of upgrading your room when you arrive, some on another site said it saved them money from booking it straight out.....but afraid they will be filled. We want to go in September and I know that is not the busy season, actually hurricane season, but did they offer this up to you?

You did enjoy the resort all in all didnt you???

we were on the 4th floor, and the sixth floor, i think, had the jacuzzi tubs....when we were looking into this hotel, i thought the club rooms did not have balconies, and we opted for the balcony instead of the jacuzzi. however, from our balcony looking up, it sure looks like the top floor rooms have balconies. unless the club rooms are only on the lagoon side. so i'm not really sure what the scoop is.

when we arrived, we were shown to the bar area, given a drink, and then someone came over with papers to sign and give us wristbands. no mention of an upgrade, and didn't ask. we were traveling with another couple, and we were happy to see our rooms were oceanview and next to each other. the only bummer is that on the oceanside, there is an external stairway that affords a peek into some of the rooms. so if you like getting your freak on with windows open, someone just might enjoy the view......

we had a great time, and would go back..... like i said previously..... it isn't ritz, but you're not paying for the ritz.....so go and enjoy.

    hope this helps.

We are considering staying at GP in June. Wondering about the music selection around the pool and the tiki bar in the evenings? Have read alot of reports on TA about the rap/hip hop music. We do not enjoy that kind of music..would really enjoy to hear island type music.
Any insight would be much help!!
    Thanks

Corona.....on another site, was doing some research on this resort, and previous visitors did say that if you bring your own CD's they will play them at the tiki bar for you.....just have to remember to get them back if you want them, after all the wonderful drinks.

Was thinking of coming here in September.....but decided to return to BBG. Let me know if you decide to stay here and what it was like....
always love to hear trip reports..
