FYI make sure any antibiotics your taking are not phototoxic. You can get some sever burns from tetracycline when exposed to sunlight, BTDT.
I just got off the phone with my doctor's office and she said the best thing to do is to take pepto either right when you get there or even a bit before and continue for trip. This will coat the stomach and prevent bacteria from creating an illness. Not sure if this is going to be helpful! I am going to check with a pharmacist as well. Sometimes they have more helpful tips than doctors. No offense to anyone who's a doctor out there!
I am absolutely horrified at all my poor Cancuncare fellow peeps all saying how sick they were ... and it seems like quite the diverse group of you all ... some had contact with each other - some didnt ... - very very strange! I know someone mentioned 'whipped cream' earlier ... I wonder if possibly that could have been bad .... that's possible too ... and of course the 'eggs' - but then not everyone had the eggs .... man oh man does it make me sad to think of anyone having to spend time in the room or bathroom because of illness .... and OMG all that 'cramping and puking and diahrrea' - that's definitely way heavier than any possible 'over indulgence' of alcohol - that's like a virus or salmonella or something ... very sad ... I just heard someone on my train yesterday who returned from Cozumel and was complaining about the same thing and referring to the 'montezumas revenge' - so who knows ... just a bad strain from 'something' right now ... It's making me think more about sticking to February or trying March than switching to April ... sorry ... but I can't BEAR the thought of being sick! Got food poisining in Vegas back in 1993 ... *OHHH EMMM TO THE GGGGGG* worst shape I've been in in my LIFE - and I've had food poisioning about 3x now .... HORRIBLE! I assumed it was from the 'ribs' and 'blooming onion' I had at Tony Roma's ribs .. however we WERE eating breakfast buffet daily and I sorta thought it could have been the eggs or something ... who knows ... but NO FUN nonetheless and sooo sorry to all that were sick ... 8'(
I've been going in april every year n never had a problem til this year. N we were sick before the whipped cream so it definetely wasn't that. I believe it was a very nasty stomach flu going around
We just got back yesterday, and one of our group had a 101-103 fever/chills/vomiting/etc.. for the last 2 days. We had the doctor come and give the shots, and we went across the street to the pharmacy and got some antibiotics. We all ate together, someone in our group of 12 ate the same exact thing and drank the same exact thing as she did, so it makes it a really tough case for food poisoning.... The lady in our group was Mexican and spoke with the doctor in length about it, and he told her it has to do with the change in food types from USA to Mexico. She had been dieting for a few weeks prior to going (salads, light foods), and then jumped into all kinds of foods and burgers at 3am... I also had been dieting for about a month on the same type of food intake, then went and over indulged in 'junk food' with no issues throwing up or diarrhea. I don't know what to say, except I feel bad for anyone that gets sick and has to travel with these symptoms Those of you that got sick, how long did it take for the symptoms to pass after the shot? We are on day 3, and although she is feeling a bit better, she still had a bad fever/chills/etc on the flight and drive home last night/early this morning..
i didn't get a shot but the violent puking stopped after the first day but felt very crappy for days afterwards. This might sound funny, but i had nightmares for a week afterwards. Don't know if it's related or not
I agree totally. and being the smartass i am, i am going to blame the "HUGE" group b4 us that wouldn't allow the body shots to kill the bug that was inside...hahaha. We went and got antibotics across the street on weds, and by friday am they were HALF price, due to the demand. Between the lil spanish and his lil english, i grabbed my stomach and said a lot of people were coming in. I would say it can't hurt if for the week you are there you take sum antibotics??? im no doc but for me on a plane with 200 people and 3 restrooms, wasn't something we wanted to encounter!
Hi! It might be related..... If you had a fever, the nightmares could have been caused by that. Hope you're feeling better!
