Im no Dr but I stayed at a Holiday Inn once but it sounds like a flu strand. I have seen some horrendous flu strands when I was in the military due to everyone living and hanging out in close quarters and it only takes one or two before it spreads like wildfire and I have seen it happen state side but more so overseas.
I never ate eggs either. Had one cooked one day but by the time I finished all my fruit I was full and didn't eat it. I also drank alot of bottle water...........about 1 litres a day and still felt totally dehydrated. I did get stomach pains but that is normal for me so it was nothing new. I am not a drinker at home so the sugary drinks get to me. Mostly attribute the pains to a total change in diet.
Yeah Monique thats the same with us. Altho sounds like what Dan had was definitely different. Different things effect us all differently though i guess. I wouldn't worry about it too much for the people just going down now...just make sure to be prepared with gravol, pepto bismol, and diarrhea relief pills!!!
My wife and I were there April 2-9 and had no problems but did see plenty of other people who did get sick. We had the time of our lives! Met some great people.
I can't comment on Temptations but as a long time visitor to Turkey I have seen folk go down with exactly these symptoms over the years. In Turkey it's so common that you only need to walk into a pharmacy holding your stomach and they know exactly what to give you. Diocalm and the like just won't work and we have been told countless times that it's not the food the drink, or the heat. It's the pools, people urinate in them and in the heat they are a breeding ground for bacteria. I once went down with it the day after I got home, went to the docs who took a sample. 48 hours later I had the health dept at my door wanting to know where I had been.
We travel down to the island a couple of times a year and we never leave home without a prescription of Ciprofloxacin, we have yet to use it but had to give it to friends. We dont even ask our doctor for it, he will prescribe it as soon as he knows we are going away. Look it up, great stuff.
I was severely sick, running a high fever for two days and my stomach didnt feel right for several days after that. If I was going this week I would go to the pharmacy across the street from TTR and put myself on a 6 day course of 250mg of azithromycin as a prophylactic. Cipro would be another option, but I am not sure about dosing. BTW you have to love Mexico. Waltzing into party store and buying pharmaceuticals without prescription. The guy selling you the the stuff isn't even a pharmacists!
Starting to look into what prescription would work best. Cipro seems like something you start taking before you get there...
