I think I am totally opposit of Violet, and maybe to a fault. I have no fear. Last night I was in a part of Cancun I had no idea existed. And the only thing in sight other then houses was a OXXO. It was pretty run down, except this new housing development we were at. I live by Gran Plaza, and that is not within walking distance to much in Centro, so the buses, not so much the Taxis have become my friends. So if anyone is looking to meet up, give me a shout, and I am there.

It's really been nice to see the response to this situation: I guess we can all appreciate what it's like to be "new in town."

Thanks, Steve, for suggesting the "get together" of posters to this forum. We're an "assorted lot," but each is just enough of an individual not to be boring!

I suppose the best way to get acquainted with those like ToriB, who might like to circulate more, is to plan an activity that sounds fun, and not too expensive. There's so much to do, here, it shouldn't be hard.

My wife and I just got back from three days on the road, seeing Chichen Itza for the first time, along with Valladolid and Ek Balam; plus, two amazing cenotes in which the roof was almost intact: light entered through single small opening, as a beam, down to the water, below. Very impressive!

Lots of these things can be done as day trips, with very little expense involved.

    A possible solution

Hello V and everyone else...glad you asked!

Well, it's exactly for this reason that I've started a Cancun Expat Group. I've only been here 7-months and have made heaps of great friends, all from joining and participating in local groups. I love to socialize but was not finding one particular group that sort of 'had it all'.

The Cancun Expat Group is listed on this site under Social Groups (thank you Steve) as well, you can Google it and find it on Facebook, but I'll save you the time.

    http://www.expatgroup.wordpress.com

The site has only been up and running for a few days. It has not yet been 'released' but somehow, it leaked out...the timing was close enough... there are two scheduled events posted for January. People are encouraged to join up, join in, RSVP...whatever they like...just participate.

I created it because I love to network. With the exception of the IWC (they are regular and organized), I found every other social group here to be unorganized and inconsistant. They should title themselves the 'Cancun Sporadics'. Everyone wanted to 'do stuff' but nobody would take the time to organize anything.

Another hot (socializing) topic, pub nights: smoking vs non-smoking.

Socializing was my savour of sorts when I arrived. It put a normal rhythm back into my daily steps and definitely improved my quality of life here. I want others to have that as well.

Please go through the website. See what you (all) think. There are many places for comments and ideas.

Hoping to see you all in January...and some of you before that.

    Cheers Everyone and Happy Holidays!
