it's me or every year the same thing pop up from someone over and over. so far, they will not remodel as the resort it's popular. Pretty sure if they are doing this ( in June ). They will do it in the off season ( june, july & August ). And pretty sure they will do per section not shut down the entire resort. As for now .. Just calm down =)
Remember this is all on Mexico time, and I've seen the same three story hotel built in Playa Del Carmen for three consecutive years. That being said, why would anybody in TTR management want to kill their cash cow? In a resort town where every place offers pretty much the same package, TTR has a resort with a very loyal, enthusiastic following built almost entirely on atmosphere provided by the guests. Could the place be nicer? Sure, but turning it into a five star almost certainly raises the price at the risk of loosing some guests who are there for the casual atmosphere and reasonable price. Lets face it, despite it's shortcomings the resort is passable if not perfect, but as everyone on here knows the atmosphere is outstanding and almost impossible to duplicate. Any business manager worth their salt knows you don't fool with a working formula by turning away your customer base for a year or better during a remodel and then hoping they return when you are done, especially if you're trying for a price increase to cover the remodel expenses. That would be a very risky move and you may never get back the atmosphere you once had. It's not the rooms, the food, or the beach; it's the guests that make this place great. As some have suggested, the safe bet is to remodel a section at a time during the off-season and don't kill your cash cow in the process.
Well put! It's baffling, but as Steve mentioned...the resort seems to excel at misinformation. The accuracy of any speculation on here is likely to be miles from reality...but it's entertaining, so we do it anyway. I can see them trying to add more rooms, and the only way to do that is to go up...so a new building or two at least. Personally, I like the layout as it is...but Mr. Temptation hasn't yet called me for an opinion.
well we are going to book anyway March 24th -April 7th 2016 might be the last time for a while so lets go for it.
A five star resort on a one star beach, can not substance 5 star prices , market will force the price down when people shift.
There's a lot of truth there Donald... They're in business to book rooms and keep the resort full. The price will determine occupancy.. If nobody returns they will have to adjust prices
Exactly right...Econ 101 and the Law of Diminishing Returns. The point at which a price increase begins to reduce income due to lower sales volume (empty rooms). There is a breaking point for any price increase where it does more harm than good for a company...this point is market driven.
Doesn't make a lot of sense for them to shut down completely. Maybe in partial phases, but not totally. Over the past year or so, they have done a number of blocks of room refreshs, refreshed Patty'O, new premier deck area and a number of other projects. I know the labor is cheap there but why bother if you are just going to tear it up? A partial shut down would make more sense. If they do shut down, even for a period of 6 months, the effects on all the staff there would be painful! I feel for them, they have no unemployment insurance in Cancun. Yes some of the bartenders and waiters do make good money, but when was the last time someone tipped the young boy on the beach that picks up seaweed or one of the gardeners that keep the place looking great? By the way that they act when I slip them just a couple of dollars and a thank you for a good job, not many. These will be the people effected most and will have to seek work elsewhere. They have good employees now, would not want to lose them. Of course, they do not value personnel very highly from some of the previous actions that have taken place in the past. Hard to say what will happen, but you can be assured we will be the last to know.
Hi Steve, I tried looking for dates next January but there is nothing available at all on any of the sites. Would there be a reason for this?
