Maybe if they bought insurance... I don't know but shit happens. If we make a mistake we pay for someone's damages, airlines should not be exempt. The old supply and demand haunts us again.
I'm a travel agent and we will not book you on a sunwing flight unless you sign a waver. We started this because they had so many delayed and cancelled flight. They are by far the worst in Canada.
We did have trip insurance and are in the process of trying to get money back for the night we missed. We had mechanical issues. First plane was leaking fuel. They brought in a 2nd plane which had some engine censor going off. Because of that , we missed our connecting flight in atlanta. We were put up in a hotel by delta and flew out the next day. We did get some credit for future flights but I don't see us flying delta again.
I feel for the pilots and workers. I'm sure they are worked to the bone with decreasing benefits/salaries. Like always, the management doesn't want to pay for redundant pilots if they can get away with just delaying everyone if necessary. Just lobby the govt and avoid any significant fines for delays. I'm sure the CEO is still making his 20 million plus a year though.
I've had great experiences with Delta and lousy experiences with Delta. If I said "never again" every time an airline wrecked one of my trips, I'd be out of airlines and would have to drive everywhere. But I wouldn't be able to because I've had "never again" experiences with pretty much every rental car agency. And, come to think of it, pretty much every hotel chain. So the option is never traveling, meaning staying home and having "never again" experiences with cable companies, internet service providers, utilities, auto shops, restaurants, neighbors, family members, friends.... *Sigh.* I need a vacation. ~Maxx
