We were in the 5000 block and I bought the weeklong wifi for the iPad specifically to FaceTime back home and check on the family. The week worth of wifi was about $70. Its a little high, but worth the piece of mind for the missus. I thought the speeds were fine, but I also wasn't trying to download a movie on iTunes either.
Now I have tmobile and can use both my cellphone and my data plan in mexico without any data charges. Just another excuse to go to TTR! :)

There is an option to buy a telephone card with the Mexican number, costs about $20 for a month with Internet, leaves cheaper than to buy the Internet in hotel. Phone has to be unlocked.
