I have looked and cant see how much the canadian government spends on the CFL OR the grey cup. If you have some basis for your arguments, than please, submit the links here so we can read about it. And I never said the athletes were on par with the NFL, I just stated that the CFL is still a prefessional sports league and that the differences between the leagues themselves were the amount of money flowing through them, rule differentials, and field size. (CFL fields are 10 yards longer) Here is a good site to read all about the differences. (the fact that it is Wiki does make it potentially wrong in some small parts, but overall it is a fairly accurate description.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_American_and_Canadian_football Ok, on another wiki page it stated that the Canadian gov will donate 5 Mill to the Grey Cup. But all in all thats not too much considering policing runs 300 mill every grey cup. And that 5 mill also includes the celebration of 100 years, so its not an every year thing. http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/cfl-55-yard-line/grey-cup-train-tour-set-rolling-022241786.html And here is the explanation of what a 'professional' sports league is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_sports And lastly here is a list of professional sports leagues. (notice 45% of the way down the CFL is listed right along with the NFL) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_professional_sports_leagues
Well I guess what got me was a couple of us saw football and thought it would be amusing to add a little Canadian content, for no other reason than we can. Now I see your first post on this and it's a sharp shot at, and I quote "bush league Canadian football" The rules differences between the two types of football are common debating points. No harm there. Then I got caught off guard with the subsidy thing... I have no doubt that the Feds are putting in money, especially with all the extra stuff considering its the 100th grey cup. To a lot of Canadians that is significant. Perhaps not to you, but that's not my concern. I personally think things like the cross country train trip with the cup is a good pr move by the league and it's sponsors. I mistook your tone to be polished a bit by booze, fine that's wrong, I misread it and apologize. But if you think taking a couple hard shots at a game I've grown up with and follow as closely as any nfl fan does their team, without rebuttal that's not going to happen. And I still don't get what your point was here? Maybe I'm missing something? Regardless, no point taking this further. I had a great weekend watching lots of football, both kinds and wish you a good night!
Whats the name of that kid that just got drafted and got hammered on the head and is out indefinitely now?? I feel so bad for him. His future looked amazing, now his future looks scary.
