Not sure henry, but to me this was a poorly written article! EVERY city around the world has poverty, not just spring break destinations. Spring Break is a time to GET AWAY from school and responsibilities and let loose for a week.
I don't see anyplace in the article that says that Florida is a foreign country??? But, I could see how one might "mistake" Miami for Cuba. I looked into applying for jobs in Miami and none of them would even grant an interview unless you were fluent in spanish... Michelle
I wouldn't go that far. The writer definitely over dramticizied the issue a little. Most of those countries are dirty poor in general, not just the area near the resorts. And the main reason those resort areas are created is so they can bring in tourism money. Without tourists, those countries would be in even worth shape than they are now. In any case, just don't be a cheapo when it comes to tipping the staff. They can use the money a lot more than you do.
Do you want to travel to a foreign country and not learn the language or culture?......exotic resorts in places like Florida, Mexico, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
