Oh thank god I found this! I've been stressing over this for a couple weeks. No way I could survive a week without ice!
Just be careful if you buy anything off the resort. I didn't trust anywhere and made sure we got drinks without ice everywhere else. Didn't trust salad or fruit off resort either.
We tipped the room service gal the first day and everyday she put atleast 6 one liter bottles of water in our fridge.....
The food and water at the resort is just fine! Of all the times I've been to Mexico I can tell when I eat or drink something wrong because I will hallucinate on the plane ride back lol last time I went I ate and drank off the resort and the next day I was seeing peoples faces in the clouds. no joke
They have a filtration plant for that part of the hotel zone itself now, I heard this past trip. The hotel itself has a filtration assembly, and bottled waters are available all over the pplace from bars, restaurants, etc. Typically, what people are actually getting sick from anymore, and thinking "it's the water," is actually a change of diet which tosses their digestive system a curve ball it can't or won't handle. Very rich foods, when you aren't used to that, can cause obliteration-level stomach and/or intestinal cramping, diarrhea, the whole usual "food poisoning," thing, too. Personally, every time I go to TTR, about the second day there I start to retain water because of all the salt put in the food (food is GREAT by the way), and my legs startto look like those of an elephant. My doc saw them after the last trip, started laughing, and said you just came back from Mexico, didn[t you. Same thing happens to him and he gave me a scrip for Lasix, the diuretic. That how you spell that? Anyway, yes they have filtered water at TTR.
Another point I just thought of - try not to swallow any of the pool water! I'm pretty sure if you were going to pick up a bug from somewhere, it would be more likely to be the swimming water. I picked up a nasty bug (full blown food poisoning) when I was a kid from a public swimming pool here in the UK. The bubba kegs work very well at keeping the pool water out of your drink.
