Per my bro, the Caps picked up his brother off waivers from the Maple Leafs a couple of months ago to see if he could play similar D for them. The fan consensus is that the coach did not give him enough minutes for the organization to make a good assessment of his skills so when the playoffs came they weren't comfortable playing him so he spent that time in the minors.

    Maybe next season.

Unrelated to the recent Stanley Cup, but....

    *** Proud Aunt Alert ***

My 16 yr old nephew Michael, from Pittsburgh, just signed a contract with the London Knights, based in London, Ontario, Canada.

He's a goaltender and has been playing hockey since age 5. Started off in Youngstown OH, then Pittsburgh PA for several years. More recently, he lived in the Detroit MI area, playing with Detroit Little Caesars. They won the USA Hockey National Championship both years he played with them.

He was drafted by USHL several months ago and was to play with the Des Moines Buccaneers this coming fall. But instead, he was "called up" early and moved to Des Moines IA just before Christmas. He finished out the season with them this past spring.

While he was in Toledo OH several weeks ago for a hockey related event, the coaches from the London Ontario team drove down to watch him play. He was invited to try out for the team even though he wasn't part of their draft. He was the only American out of the 6 goalies trying out.

He was offered the goaltender position while still in Toledo. He's gone to London 2 more times, including the last 2 days. The contract was just finalized. He signed it, and was presented a team jersey and hat during the press conference.

He'll be moving to London, Ontario mid-August to play with the London Knights and will be a junior in high school.

He's eligible for the NHL draft in 2010.

I assume that he'll go pro when he's eligible but not completely sure. I'll have to ask him.
