    Flamingo Hotel

I am planning a trip to Cancun in May & will probably be staying at the Flamingo. I stayed there last September. During the middle of my vacation the Caribbean pool was closed for repairs. Has anyone been there since september & can you tell me if the pool is now open? Thanks

The outside pool-bar has been completely removed (but the stools are still underwater).
The repaired beaches are quickly disappearing.
It is easy to see the huge amount of sand the Mexican Government
dredged and brought to the shoreline, because the water has eaten
into the new sand and created sand-cliffs that are 4-5 feet high in some places.
Some hotels had to dig dry-wells thru the new sand so their doorways
    would be useable.
Flamingo was laying sandbags on the lower beach area almost every day
to try and delay the errosion (that looks unstoppable).
Some of the hotels north of Flamingo already have water hitting their walls.
There is still good beach area off the Flamingo, but the 60meter beach
that they created last Springtime is down to ~20meter.
Still nice, but a shame to see it all being washed away.

The construction next-door is still going strong, and the new hotel
is a real beauty, but the "noise" was never a problem.
Even down in the Albatross, where the work is right-in-yer-face
the noise level is very low.... facinating to watch them.

The only big surprise was the lack of birds; very few in the air, and none around
the Albatross where they used to put on quite a show as they begged for food..... no Sandpipers on the beach at all..... quite an unexpected scene.

Sad to say, some of the ol' crew have moved on but there were still many familiar faces.

    We had a great vacation.
Weather-wise, probably one of the best trips in the past 7 years.
It "rained" almost every day for at least 30-seconds, with 85-89 degrees the norm.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Flamingo.

Got to the Hotel areound 3 and checked in. Room wasn't ready so we headed to the pool bar for drinks. (Lobby bar doesn't open until 4)

First room - King size bed good view. Didn't work since it was 2 guys.
2nd Room - 2 double beds. Beds and pillows were stiff/hard. No Fridge, small TV with a weird channel setup. Small Balcanoy overlooking Flamingo Plaza with 2 chairs and coffee table. Room was quiet, but walls were dirty, somesort of liquid stain on one wall, other than that clean. Purified Water sticker on mirror. After first night door stopped locking - complained 5 times before going to 3rd room
3rd room - Similar to second room, except on 5th floor. SMALL balcony - no chairs could fit. room much cleaner. Overlooked plaza. VERY loud room as noise from Margaritaville/Pat O's came in.

Pools - 2 nice pools, not very large and chairs were at a premium. The courtyard pool had a swim up bar and grilled hotdogs/hamburgers through out the day.

Food - Decent. nothing to write home about but not bad. I was always able to find something to eat.

Staff - Very friendly and for the most part helpful (except with the locking door)

Beach, Nice beach, lost of sand. There is some steep drop off's but nothing show stopping. Beach Chairs. Everyone I laid out in was broken in some way.

Overall, the hotel is showing its age, but they are trying to keep up with it. They were painting the hallways, and working on several of the rooms. We were a little disappointed with some of the room redscriptions, but overall a decent hotel for the price. I would stay here again for the price I paid.

Usually they have all three you mention.

    Regarding A/I -
I've never had a drink request turned down at any of their bars.
If you see it you can drink it !

(startin' to plan our January visit now.... :)
