If all else fails, you can exchange USD to pesos at the front desk. We did that a couple of times and the front desk staff was happy to accommodate our requests.

We took a bunch of silver dollars for tipping at the pool bar. It made the bartenders remember us as I would imagine not a lot of people are tipping with coins the size of sand dollars haha. We also had a wad of $1 so we could leave a little tip each day for the maid and other workers that get overlooked easy on the tip area.

The mini fridge had 2 bottles of water in it daily, and we got more if we asked the maid to leave extra. The bottles of water were huge, almost 2 liters!

Went shopping down by Coco Bongo in the flea markets where we negotiated some good deals. We took the public bus, which was only 8.5 pesos each way. I felt safe the entire time and never felt uncomfortable about the bus or people.

Only trouble with this is the people you tip cannot exchange these coins for their local currency.

The luggage is usually left in the lobby until your room is ready. Security or staff is usually present, but would suggest taking your valuables(including passports) with you to the pool in a beach bag. Or if you make friends with someone here on the forum that will be there when you arrive you may be able to take your luggage to their room until yours is ready. Heard of others doing this.

10 times to Mexico and we've never exchanged USD for Pesos. Like all others have said, tip in american dollars, fives, tens. They do appreciate it, and you will get better service. Our favorite off site spots-

Night clubs- TTR does run a nightly all incllusive trip to a different club. Coco Bongos is definitely worth it. Of course other clubs with a good crowd are fun also.

Isla Mujeres- Since you can't do Steve Boobs Cruise (damn shame)- take a ferry over. There is one within walking distance. Definitely worth the trip- rent a golf cart and see the whole island. Eat at one of the restuarants. And have as many cold cervezas (Sol is very good) as you want.

Xel Ha- you can book at the resort- "environmental park" with snorkling and a a lazy river- all inclusive package gets you booze and food.

Or you can just stay on the resort the entire week and have a great time as well.

Water is great, especially frozen with any of type of liquor added.

We like $20 peso bills cuz they stand up so much better to water than US currency...Drink the water in Mexico pretty much anywhere. Immune systems get to be weakass systems if never challenged.

We don't get to do a Steve's Boobs Cruise either casue of the dates but we are going to do a One & Only (copycat) from the resort that runs Tuesday and Friday? Can'T wait to see Chinos!! If you haven't had the opportunity to see Chinos the former head of entertainment you REALLY need to do it. As I'm sure anyone on this forum would agree. I was really disappointed to find out there wouldn't be a Steve Cruise during our week April 6-13th but when we found out Chinos does both this was our only option. Highly recommend CocoBongo and Isla Mujeres on your own by ferry and golf cart. We don't drink the water from thy resort by choice. They say it is treated but we prefer to drink and brush with bottled. There is a couple of corner stores just outside the resort that we get the big gallon jugs. Cheaper than the gift shop. Take lots of US$$$ for tipping and there are some money exchanges outside the resort. We haven't had much luck getting money from the front desk. Seems to be a hassle.
