As hard as I practice all year long the first night is always a fuzzy one. My first time there I was told I had a great time that night, and the front desk was kind enough to have the sandals I had lost somewhere that night.
Last year we landed on Lingerie night and things got out of control - we laid in bed the next am laughing our asses off trying to piece the night together
The first night curse in not exclusive to TTR, it is common at any party destination...Las Vegas, Key West, etc. The earliest symptom of "The Curse" is a $9 beer at the airport at 7 a.m.
Been going for over 13 years now, over 25 trips! 1st day never changes, now it happens faster the older I get!
Our last trip there, we got to the resort around 10PM, and if I remember, we were back in the room about midnight praying to the porcelain gods. I don't think we approached that first night correctly...
Last trip, we woke up at 3 AM in a Minneapolis hotel, shuttled to the airport, flew all morning, ate very little while waiting for our room to be ready, hit the pool, met cool people, partied and danced until 4 AM, I tripped over a stair and cracked my head on the ceramic tile, lost a pint of blood and woke up with a major concussion and band-aids where stitches were called for. Took two Advil and started drinking beer. Welcome to Canun. First day curse...check.
Last April we were supposed to be on the Boobs Cruise the day after we arrived. We'd "met" a ton of people online before we got there and spent the night getting to know them in person and telling everyone we were on the same cruise and they'd better show up.... best laid plans, woke up still drunk and feeling none to great and never made it In October our cruise was cancelled due to a tropical depression rolling in and the coastguard shutting the waters. April will be our 3rd try, 3rd time's the charm right?
We went with two other couples. Of the six of us, only two got past the curse and only one was able to go out that night and at least eat some dinner. C was propped on her side and I was hungry, after all! Nothing like asking for the "Table for one" and being seated with all the other husbands whose wives were cursed.
