I had a laptop shipped from USA via FedEx, and it is declared at $1500. Apparently since it is over $1000, customs has held it and wants more documentation, which is as follows: Cedula attorney (?) High finanace (??) SAT Address verification Proof of residence CURP Copy of official ID Tax ID of the supplier (if available) Letter of commendation (???) 7th letter (#$%#@%$ ????) Is it really possible that they would require THAT much documentation for a laptop, or is the customs guy messing with me (and possibly wants to keep the laptop for himself)? If the customs guy causes any more trouble is there any way to speak with a manager or something like that? Has anyone else come across anything like this before? Regards, Adrian
Probably not messing with you, customs are strict. First rule of importing anything personal is get a mule to bring it for you, don't use a shipping service. We are currently looking at importing some items for sale and the red tape is nightmare, having to use a customs broker etc to avoid ridiculous fees - and even then the fees are high.
