The only time I wear one is when I have my Bianchi concealed carry pack on with my Sig Sauer P229 in it. And I don't worry much about people laughing at me then. Otherwise, I wouldn't be caught dead in one. I can't help you on this one.
I, now, officially have this in writing. If I win, you WILL have to leave those horrible things at home!! You don't need to wear the backpack AND the fanny pack, it's just not necessary. HELP ME OUT GUYS! :announce:
5.11 Tactical has many options for a Tactical Man Purse that would be more socially acceptable than a "Fanny Pack". I liked the utility of carrying a backpack while traveling, but as a tall wide guy, it seemed like they just didn't fit right. What I found was a good alternative was a 5.11 Messenger Bag. At the time they only made 1 size, now they make 3. The one I have is the equivalent of the LIMA Messenger Bag It has a velcro lined side pouch that is great for carrying a holster (where appropriate). I can get an ipad, leather folio, cords, charger, first aid kit, battery booster and a pile of other junk in it without much bulging. If you carry a full size laptop, you might want to step up to the larger size. I carry it cross body and have both hands free for whatever else, but don't have the constant falling to one side like a backpack. It has a nice feature that allows it to slide over your rolling suitcase handle as well. The design is very nice with lots of pockets and pouches. If that is bigger than you are looking for, they make smaller shoulder range bags, but they just seemed to purse like for carrying around in public (to me at least).
