@Steve ...like I was telling you the other day, you (and lovely Jannet) are phenominal and we all owe much credit to you for your hard work! I am sure I can speak for most if not all, please accept our (the community you created) heart warm thanks for all the hard work and efforts to keep it going and to make it better. It was a pleasure meeting you both and appreciate all that you do. Hope to see you again some time soon. I will advise on the “launch”. Stay healthy my friend... Paul and Rayanne
@Steve Thanks for posting these stories. You guys are the best. I have no idea how I never thought to ask the origin story of the name. I guess I just always thought that it's like you "Care" aka you give a shit about the people and their happiness, and try to provide the best experiences to them (all while not trying to rape their pockets). And for that sir, we all think you! Without Temptation and Cancuncare, my life would actually not be the same. Cheers mate!
Didn't really detect an apology. Kinda aloofly portraying innocence, like FB is blameless Have to wait till tomorrow for full clarity and tone of the Q&A
I would not have met my husband if not for Cancuncare. Woody from the Addicts convinced me here on Cancuncare to try an April trip, and I loved it so much that I came back the next April, and met the guy who introduced me to Sean. Talk about your life not being the same without Cancuncare!! Thank you Steve, for all you do. xo
Well... can't beat meeting husband here!!!! Only can testify to a reluctant newbie, planning to hide on beach or quiet pool, that found cancuncare!!!! Booked Boobs Cruise, the rest is history!!! As I have previously said, thank you Steve!!!
Yeah as mentioned, it's a little corny and does sound like some kind of medical service. At the start our focus was on the whole of Cancun, now it is much more oriented towards TTR. But 16 years ago we didnt know where the site would go or if it would even last a year. The care thing was intended, as Scubasteve mentioned, to suggest it would be an honest site run by an honest couple who had the best interests of the visitors/members at heart. At the time, Cancun and associated websites had a reputation for price gouging and rip offs - still does to a certain extent. Too established to re-brand now and far better than one of those multi word domain names. Imagine if the Boobs Cruise was run by cancuntripstransfersandtours.com. I'll take it as it is
Had a couple of hours of it on the TV in the background this afternoon. I guess we will differ on this. Personally, I don't see what the fuss is about. Zuckerberg did issue a (carefully scripted) apology, but as one Senator mentioned he has issued many of those before. Facebook are a public company, I'm not sure they broke any laws - at least not US laws. UK laws on privacy are more strict, and I don't know if any of those were broken but I wouldn't expect a prosecution. FB terms and conditions are accepted on joining or available to read any time thereafter. You can bet they have been drafted as tight as the proverbial ducks ass. As for apps that users download that harvest info, they have terms and conditions too. I'm not a huge fan of FB for various reasons, one is to do with the dumbing down of the Internet as previously mentioned and the stupidness of many users who are oblivious to what they are actually accepting and allowing - which isn't really FB's fault. Even one Senator couldn't understand how FB made money since it was free to use, Zuckerburg had to say "we run ads". Another is to do with FB censorship of opinions that don't fit their agenda, almost always pages/groups to the right side of politics. Then again, I censor certain stuff here; naked pics, spam, abusive comments, creepers. That is my right as owner and it is Zuckerberg's right as owner of FB too. I can't fault their business model at all though and as long as it's legal I don't see an issue. I do think they try to act responsibly for the main part and do far more good than harm. I buy and sell their stock regularly. Bought some before the hearing, and it finished 4.5% up on the day so fine with that.
If the Brexit and US election votes were rigged they have every right to interfere. Why is privacy so important to Zuck, that he buys the houses around him to guard his privacy, as Wozniak says, but his company doesn't protect users of FB.? Good gain on the stock. I sold my position out years ago.
I"m pretty darn conservative politically speaking, and to me most of these congressional hearings are more about politics, than doing something for the people. I like Facebook for the simple reason it is the fastest easiest way to share information, any information. I realize it's their site, and they can sensor what they want, and there may be some privacy issues, but privacy doesn't really bother me. Are my kids pictures some national security issue? We also like to build people up, and then knock them down. Probably plenty of that going on as well. He never really was a very popular person anyway. I'm guessing the only thing that becomes of this, is more donations to Senators coffers.
I agree with Restling, it was a time to grandstand for politicians. Not much more. If FB used ads, knowingly or not, for the election, I do not see the issue. He is a liberal anyway. If an ad changes your position on who to vote for, you have missed the boat in my opinion. Voting should be done on the individual's position on topics that are important to you.
