Thanks @Steve . I really enjoyed reading about the history of the site. For me i am loyal to a fault. Cancúncare introduced me to temptations and a world that we never would of known existed without it. I can’t imagine Facebook being more informative, a better community and an easier place to meet people before a trip. So we have stuck with ccc since we stumbled across it in 2010. Seen the attempts to pull elsewhere and simply ignore. Appreciate the work you have put in to this and hope to continue to enjoy the site for many years to come!
Oh and @Steve now that you have had more penthouse gatherings did you figure out costa for bartenders and liquor?
Thanks @Steve for all that you and Jannet have done and continue doin' to keep this site vital. CCC is a welcomed addictive escape from life's daily installments of BS. It is the next best thing to actually having a room key at TTR. And huge thanks for sharing your humble beginnings building this site. Love reading it. The drive and dogged determination by you and Jannet to create, incubate and bring into existence CCC, is very much appreciated and admired. Eagerly Looking forward to the next essay on the history of 'my first Internet stop each day'. Question for you, something I have been meaning to ask. The Name! Why Cancuncare?
It is very hard to add something after the two veterans above explained to the point what a lot of people are thinking. We are newbies here and we found CCC while we were contemplating the Boobs Cruise about lets say, a month and a half prior to our first trip end of January. We got addicted within the first week and so glad we could research everything we wanted to know before we left. Learning how you fought to keep this dream of yours alive and did a magnificent job achieving makes us like this place even more. The way you moderate and keep it civil is something we value. We deal and defend points all day, every day, so being able to put out an op without getting hit right, left and center definitely makes this place attractive; a harbor where respect is key. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of something this great.
Thanks! It's people like you that make the site what it is. I am very appreciative of your support. I'll make a separate post about that in the other thread, not tonight. I need to ask the boss the details and she's in bed. Thank you for your kind words. It means a lot.
Cheers Marshe, why Cancuncare? There's actually a good story behind that. So our first visit to TTR, or BBG as it was known then, was 2001. We got to know a group of people at the hotel and we used Jannet's expertise as a previous hostess / tour seller / travel agent in Cancun to hook us up with a discounted price for a group trip one night. There were about 25 of us, and we decided we'd go to the Captain Hook Pirate Ship. All tours pay a commission to legitimate sales agents, and we intended to try and get a commission and use that to reduce everyone's price by a few dollars. So Jannet calls the company to negotiate a group discount and try to eke out a commission to further reduce the price. They said "what company are you?" and Jannet replies somewhat spontaneously "Travelcare". "Travelcare?" they say, "we dont know you." Jannet says, "Oh we are a new company based in the UK". They said Ok, gave us a good price and a good night was had. One year later, just after our second trip to BBG, I decide to make this site, and we are trying to come up with a domain name to register. In those days websites were named things like cancuntraveltoursandtrips.com, besthotelsincancun.com etc etc. We didn't want a similar inane name and wanted something brandable and short. We remembered back to travelcare, and cancuncare was decided upon. A little corny on reflection, but it embellished the spirit of what we wanted to achieve - a caring community for travelers to Cancun, and on 5 August 2002 Cancuncare.com was born.
Thanks Mate for telling that story. I always wondered but have never thought to ask you. More than once, when spreading the gospel of CCC to UK folks at TTR, I have been questioned about the name. 'Why is it called that? Cancuncare sounds like something for old retirees" Been told that back in the UK, that name would imply geriatric overtures. I snicker and say No CCC is not geriatric related. That is other people have said that to me @Steve I like the name. Hey.......Is Zuckerberg gonna get grilled today or just a stern warning?
I think he will apologize and not much more. Too much at stake for him. He provides details, it just enhances the class action lawsuit that is coming.
