My point awhile ago.... safety in numbers... and when someone threatens you, or just acts like an ass, put security on notice. That way, when you go back to them later you have some leverage.

I think the point was the system there is the source of corruption. There are probably honest abrigados there but when the system works on bribes that will grease the wheels of progress.

Sultana: have you dealt with lawyers in Cancun? This couple got away cheap compared to what a lawyer would have charged them in Cancun and they would have probably spent more time in jail before they were allowed to go home. I deal with lawyers in Cancun and they know how to delay the legal process to benefit their pockets.

 

Yes, I have, although not for these types of matters. I'm a Mexican lawyer but live in northern Mexico. I'm pretty sure there must be at least some lawyers in Cancun who -even if it's just to get a good reputation and establish a successful practice- are not out to skim their clients. What probably would have happened in this case is the lawyer would have gotten a quick release of Ingram and his wife and negotiated a reasonable "payment" with the police. His/her fees would probably still be less than what they ended up paying. Maybe your local consulates (U.S., Canada, other countries) have a list of recommended local lawyers.

 

I'm still surprised that nobody else has come forward as a witness. Normally at the end of the day there are far less people, but there are always people around this area until after closing.

Would be great to get the information on a good reputable lawyer in Cancun in case something crazy like this ever happened to someone else.

 

I thought he had a bunch of friends as witnesses. A bunch of them emailed the resort supporting his version of the story.

So if there are enough witnesses supporting his version of events, I would think they would have to at least respond to these concerns.

 

What has the resort been saying so far? Did they listen to both sides witnesses?

The resort sounds like they might have made their conclusion without listening to both sides of the story, which would be quite unfortunate.

Multiple witnesses emailing them would significantly strengthen his case.

I have sympathy for this guy Ingram because it seems like the resort hasn't taken his story into account sufficiently.

All I have said was that I never got the "resort's" side of the story, so I am not fully sure yet.

From the sounds of this thread and some witnesses, it sounds like Ingram was wronged.
