1000 to 1300 calories a day is barely surviving...what are you eating?

Today, I was in a hurry to get out of the gym(tornado watch all d### day) so it was only 40 minutes on the treadmill and heavier than usual upper body weights. It was nice to step up the weights again. Maybe heavier weights will be the key for me!
My weight is staying pretty much the same, but I'm trying not to let it get to me. As they say, it either goes from your ass or your face. Neither choice appeals to me.

yeah maybe ... but i thought if i tried to keep it fairly normal. things i would eat
if i wasn't trying to loose then I would be more likely to continue eating that way..
I have done the high protein low to no carbs.. and i just don't function well on it i am very tired with low energy.. i just don't feel good on it..

I don't believe in the low/no carbs either. Yeah, you lose weight but just as soon as you eat some carbs, it is back. Great food choices. I'm doing 1500 to 1800 a day. The weight should really be falling off. Where is Dan for his opinion? He must be at the gym!
I'm blaming it on the age and being a woman.

well this is sure different for me .. any time i wanted to loose weight, I did..
I was thinking last night in my depression.. that if I was on one of the diets.. I would be down at least 10 lbs by now.. I should have done that first and then started working out .. but its to late now.. not sure I would make goal by April.. but my real goal is to be in the best shape ever by August, my B-day...

It's 2+ months til April so you have lots of time!
Remember what Jimmy said? Something like the April group starts being super-fit, sexy, fun and after the 3rd. day become the bloated, hungover but still nice to meet you group? That always gets a chuckle out of me!

    Frustrating!

I really sympathize with women trying to lose weight. It more difficult for men too, as we age, but still harder for women.

In my readings there seem to be several factors at play.

Number one is muscle mass, so you ladies are certainly doing the right thing with weight training.

Here is a link to a website that gives you a lot of info such as calories burned doing specific activities, calories in specific meals and foods, etc.. Remember that it's only ESTIMATES and each of us burn calories differently.

Free Calorie Counter, Weight Loss Calculators, and Weight Loss Tutorial | CaloriesPerHour.com

As we age the ratio of muscle vs. fat changes in our overall weight. So a 25 year old woman weighting 140 lbs. will have more muscle accounting for a percentage of that weight than a 45 year old woman. That is why a lot of people caution against just going by your scales.

When you diet, without exercise, you lose muscle mass, as well as fat. That makes it harder to maintain your desired weight once you achieve it.

Your body is programmed to maintain the weight and fat stores that you accumulate. As you begin to lose weight a hunger hormone called ghrelin increases, and a fullness hormone called leptin decreases.

Hormones are also a major factor. Getting your levels tested will probably save a lot of frustration. Low estrogen makes you hungry and crave particular foods, usually carbs and fat. Low testoterone makes it difficult to build and maintain muscle and contributes to low energy. You should also be tested for thyroid disease.

Try to keep this in mind: Everything you do, in terms of physical activity, is like putting coins in your piggy bank. The more you save the richer your life will be, as you age.

Notice how some elderly people struggle to climb stairs or get in and out of cars. Some struggle to even walk. Usually they are overweight, as well.

Others have a healthy weight and walk briskly through life. They have no trouble bending to pick up their groceries and are thoughly enjoying their retirement and health.

Not hard to guess which ones maintained physical activity through their middle age.

What you are doing now will pay off in more ways than just weight loss. It will get easier and more enjoyable. You will find other activities along the way that you enjoy.

So..CONGRATULATIONS!! YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING!!
