If you are a member of a gym, there probably is at least one person who competes there. Get to know them and pick their brain. We are friends with both male and female competitors and you can learn a lot about dieting and exercise from them. We got tore up from the floor up last weekend with a friend who is hardcore and huge. He eats soo clean its crazy. He got us drinking coke zero and bacardi which is only around 60 cals. We even started drinking them when we go to temptations! Just little things like that are things you can pick up and use.
Want to lose weight? Here's one HUGE key: Do NOT weigh yourself. Yes you read that right. A 1/2 pound here and there is often explained by when you had your last BM, when you drank your last litre of water, etc. But the mental impact that a gain vs a loss of 1/2 a pound, is what often de-rails people from a diet. Also, ANY diet will only be successful long-term, if it's sustainable. Those that are counting calories... ask yourself: Can I really eat this way 90% of the time for the rest of my life? I highly, highly doubt your true answer would be "yes", and in that case, you WILL gain it back. Try eating whole foods. Little (or preferrably NO) processed foods. Eggs/egg whites, veggies, chicken breasts, lean red meat, low GI fruits such as raspberries and blueberries... but NO fruit juices (basically liquid sugar)! Drink water often, eat 6 times daily (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack)... 3 hours apart to keep your metabolism firing! And, of course, work out. Ab workouts are not going to give you a flatter stomach... abs are "made in the kitchen" as my trainer says. Work out major muscle groups and work the largest muscles in those groups first every workout -- they will keep burning calories for hours after a workout, thus loweing body fat reserves. In no time, you will see differences. Try weighing yourself, then follow the above advice for a month. Do NOT weigh yourself for that entire month. I will bet you that before you hit 30 days, people will notice that you are losing weight and looking better. You will notice increased energy. Once the month is done, weigh yourself... but don't be discouraged if the number went up -- it will certainly have been an increase in muscle mass and an equivalent decrease in fat (thus keeping weight the same, but you will be MUCH healthier and look much more fit!).
Well, over the past two weeks I've run the emotional gamut & they've been interesting to say the least!! Hand surgery, the death of my father-in-law, and a surprise visit from Lisa, my very sweet Temptation friend!! Needless to say, the diet & exercise plan have been on hold for a bit! Ready to get back to the gym for some modified exercise. Have pretty much maintained on weight, but feel like I've lost some muscle tone over the last couple of weeks and that's probably why. I agree that weighing really isn't a good idea, but I can't seem to stay off the scales! My drink of choice at TTR was Coke Zero & Canadian Club; pretty much the same calories as the Bacardi. Did allow myself one drunken monkey a day though...after all it's vacation, right?? Kim, can't wait to meet you in Cabo...we'll all be lookin' our best by then!
