Another big scam in Jamaica involves the shuttle bus drivers. If they see you "lighting up", they use their cell phones to call their "pal". He is a policeman in Lucea or Green Isle. When the bus goes his area, the pulls the bus over and arrests the offenders. Of course he lets them off with a warning and a fine (which he splits with the bus driver). Surprising, but Ganja is illegal in Jamaica. I'm sure selective efforcement is the norm !!!
Jamaica was a beautiful country , but every one is out for a quick buck now and ruining it. Ex... common for them to put their foot on the scale at the airports and demand cash,,, when going into off resort restaurants they quickly change the menu card with inflated prices,,, tour buses will not take off until they give you a huge speech on how they work for tips and you HAVE to tip them,,,,,male Jigalos (usually permanently stoned) openly hitting on your women,,, drugs every where, don't mind the drugs its everything else that goes with it..(first hand experience for the most part )
Jamaica Donald, you have certainly been to Jamaica !!! For some reason most Jamaican men consider themselves to be TOTALLY irresistable to all Women !!! We normally stay up on Bloody Bay, but last April chose a non AI resort futher South. Bad mistake !!! I don't mind the Ganja, but the Coke and Crack are another story. ANd just plain old fashion beggars !!! My wife and I still laugh about it, but this one stoned guy wallked up to my very Red Headed Wife and said "Oh Sweetheart, you must eat a lot of Lobster". Of course all of the poster on the Jamaica travel forums are in Complete Denial of what really happens there.
Here's a typical incident in todays news. Tourist accused of stealing a phone, cops called, search tourist, no phone found but she is carrying several suspect cigarettes.
