I have found the bar service improves tremendously when you tip the bartenders properly .... which leads me to believe the bartenders are not handing their tips over to the resort. See everyone at the sexxxy pool on September 22nd ... woohaa !!!
If they splitting tips that's absolutely fine, as long as they all provide good service And from we heard and read here they do work very hard! I just would be seriously upset to find out my tips are going back to the hotel!
Just to clarify.... My husband and I had been hanging out with a single guy that had ordered the drinks. He had told the waitress to just keep them coming since we were all drinking the same thing and they started to pile up on the bar (which was our fault for drinking them after they left the waitress' hands). So who knows who the recipiant of the drinks was supposed to be. Either way it was stupid. This was around 2am and our shuttle was picking us up at 4am. That guy disappeared after he said he didn't feel well so don't know what happened to him. And.....It wasn't dehydration or drinking too much because we both had crazy hallucinations and fevers/chills...
I think I could have said it better now that I re-read it. It is not that they are giving the hotel the tip money to keep, but I was told that they must turn it in and then the hotel splits the tips among the proper employees and redistributes it.
We had a great time on our vacation at TTR, even had some new experiences! Our last day at the resort was a different story. We were drinking in the sexy pool and early in the day, around 3, I was so "drunk" my wife and friends said they couldn't understand anything I was saying. I repeatedly asked the couple we were with where my wife was, even though she was in the group we we're standing in. That is where my memory stops. I woke up by myself in our room. It was nighttime and I no idea how I got there. My wife was with the other couple we vacationed with, they all thought I had to much to drink. Then in my confusion, I became paranoid about where my wife was. When I found my wife I was confused and yelling, it was very embarrassing! I wound up back in my room and again had no memory of walking back there! I can see how people can joke about it, but it can be dangerous. I could have easily wound up in a Mexican jail that night. Honestly, I think someone drugged me so they could talk to my wife with me not around. Also a scary situation! Until I saw that others had been drugged at the resort I wasn't sure if I was drugged or drunk. I have been drinking for 20 years and never once had an experience like that night. I apologize to all that saw me that night, how embarrassing. We met some great people on our trip, just wish we would have left a day earlier.
Question: What's the "rush" that someone would get by spiking someone's drink? Generally speaking, the person who drinks the drink isn't around that same place when the whatever it is takes effect, are they? Is it a attempt t quiet form of rape, perhaps? I just don't understand some people, but I'd like to put my thumb in their eye if I caught them doing it.
Hey guys - wanted to share something with you. In Mexico there are such things as "adulteradas". These are drinks in brand bottles that have drinks in them that are 1/2 original drink and 1/2 who knows what kind of chemical mixtures. Empty bottles of brand name bottles are sold and then resold as adulteradas for fraction of the price. Such bottles could have been sold to the hotel.
