The only thing I should have added is that as the peso is now 13:1 against the dollar instead of 10:1 as it has been for years, please remember to up the amount of pesos accordingly in your tip.

As long as the £ falls equally against both the dollar and the peso it doesn't make a difference - your £1 will still exchange to something worth the same regardless of which currency you change it to.

    Pesos or dollars

We were there from Oct 18-25. The dollar varies against the peso depending where you go. Most places, ATM's money exchanges etc are giving at most 11.25 to 11.75 pesos per dollar. One small exchange place near Wal Mart was giving 12.00 that was the best I saw. I can't say what the people prefer I think they are happy for whatever you give.

Dollars work everywhere, I'd stick with them. I bought 4000 pesos for about 375 bucks. I cashed in about 1400 pesos on the way out to get dolars back, they wanted 14 pesos per dollar. You get 12 per dollar when you buy pesos but have to give 14 when you get dollars back, a huge difference. My best advice to go shopping at Mexican stores is use pesos, but dont have too muck left to have to reconvert when you go home, they screw you coming and going which could be fun, just not for money. Have a good time, our group did. See my trip report I left for more info.
