We buy insurance every trip. After one trip to the emergency room in Mexico, we won't travel without it. We usually use Travelguard, they have paid out on 2 trips with no problems. The only thing they did not pay was the cab fare to the hospital.
We always get insurance........most often through our credit card as part of the service that they provide, but have bought it separately as well. The cost is minimal. We have elderly parents and are concerned we could have to cancel at a moments notice so it makes sense to us.
We usually get ours through Travel Guard. Get it the night before we depart for mostly medical evac back to US and lost luggage type of stuff and it's alot cheaper without the cancellation on it.
The question was little open ended, because it does not specify what kind of Insurance. I the most important, in my opinion, is medical insurance. If you live in USA and have private major medical from company like Blue Cross, United Health, Humana, Aetna, etc. you are probably covered when you travel(check with your provider) However, the overseas hospitals will not file claim meaning you will have to pay by cash or credit card and file paper work when you get home for reimbursement. If you live in Canada or UK and are covered by national health I don't know what happens if you have to go to hospital while travelling. As far as trip cancellation insurance, I figure that worse case scenario is that we will have to pay change fee to airline and hotel and as long as we use it within a year you will only be out change fee. I think most of the insurance with premium credit cards is secondary to what other insurance you may have that is why it is so reasonable. I know that is case with rental cars.
For lost luggage is a trap since the tour operator are responsable of it! As soon as they have it they are responsable. Happens to me 2 years ago and I got it back and all money been refund by united airline ! Just for your info! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I always buy the insurance! Two years ago my vacation home got washed away in Cape Hatteras and I had three days to find another vacation destination for 20 people -- we were fortunate to find a beautiful place in Tybee Island, Georgia. Last year, I was in Florida when Hurricane Sandy hit -- and we were all in lock-down inside our condos for three days while the beaches, bars and restaurants were closed. Two years in a row -- and I don't want my vacation ruined a third. INSURANCE, PLEASE!
You left out that little detail of your past vacation experiences before booking this trip... I'm hoping your luck changes this time! :lighting1: We have paid for trip insurance before, and it was very helpful in April when the wife got an ear infection and we were stuck at TTR for 2 extra days (Awful, i know right? lol)... This trip we didn't get it though... But I did book it with my Amex, so I have travel protection through them.
you never know when you will be bitten in the ass!! If you are lucky this may happen at Temptation ;-) but if you are unfortunate and something untoward happens its better to be safe, not sorry! We always buy an annual policy, costs around £65 per person, we travel a lot so very worth while for us
Everyone is different it seems. I guess the answer is to do whatever makes you feel most at ease. Other than an every other year standard turn your head and cough physical, I never ever see a doctor - except on the golf course and on 'House' reruns. The odds of me needing one on vacation are really small - though on my last trip I probably needed a few stitches, and I'm pretty sure I had a concussion. I decided instead to self-medicate with bacon and alcohol. I have good health insurance, so I would have been reimbursed had I gone in. The odds of something unforseen happening and having to cancel at the last minute are long, and I'd just reschedule. You can't plan for everything, but I'm just not able to justify needing travel insurance.
