Thank you GoGo, you've inspired me today! Work colleague brought in half a massive cake, left over from his birthday at the weekend. I thought of your words 'do I want to eat this more than I want to look etc' and I've resisted the Temptation!
While I don't do "paleo"... I do tend to try and do things more naturally whenever possible. I also try and stick to the "outer ring" of the grocery store, except for the low calorie ice creams, and when I have to go to the middle for things like stock, soup, quinoa, things like that...
An interesting factoid: U can never loose the fat you have gained. A lot of people are under the misconception that when you do cardio ; you burn fat....false! all you do is shrink the fat cells. The moment you start to slack and eat sloppily...they just expand again. The only way to get rid of fat is through a surgical process called liposuction. Sooooo...for people loke us...its important to try to eat 4 small meals a day ( trains the metabolism to burn constantly), work out, and consume low carbs and high protein. No need for the newest work out craze...all you need is an ipod full of good music and motivation. Hope to see all your terrific bodies in Temptations.
Damn it's hard to live by what you preach! I know going totally paleo won't do me any harm, but I'm struggling to give up those last few carbs! My diet as it stands is a fruit smoothie (homemade) in the morning; a handful of goji berries, walnuts and brazil nuts mid-morning; beetroot and lettuce at lunch...and then, dammit I can't help but eat rice or pasta with chicken/fish and bread for evening meal. Anyone want to help point out where I'm going wrong? What's making me crave those carbs when I get home?
:daisy:Carbs are a natural addition to the modern diet?? I wouldn't survive one day without carbs!! Meat I could live without, alcohol I can, chocolate and biscuits if I have too, but no carbs at all??? Never gonna happen.....
on my best days, I try to eat no processed foods.. cook my own meal higher in protine and lots of veggies. I stay away from sugary stuff, I dont use butter or margerine..I do use the occational light mayo.. and I have one slice of high fiber whole grain bread a day.. cant help it it just make me happy.. I was doing no potatoes but .. a couple a week wont hurt...I work out at least 3 times a week and on a good week I try to get in 6 days of working out..lol I watch my serving sizes and my biggest challange is drinking my water.. my latest challange is no diet drinks replace with water and watch my sodium intake..all of these things sound great right?.. well let me tell you this.. if you need to lose it doesant work.. if you want to maintain. it works.. lol I am at a loss as to how to get these 10 lbs off that keep sneaking back over and over..it drives me up the wall.. lol and My friend and i just got back from TTR.. for 2 weeks.. she gains 2 lbs.. I gained 8 lbs.. everyone around me eats like crap and doesnt gain a pound.. I have done.. Atkins, weight watchers, Jenny Craig, cabage soup, meal replacement shakes, and back at the same place I started.. it drives me crazy.. and its not like im not strict ..for months I can stay on it.. and when i am.. I dont drink alcohol... so with all of that said.. Im just gonna eat normal.. watch my protions, try to keep heathy and balanced and exercise my ass of.. lol
Bottom line..........you must burn more calories than you consume. It's really that simple. Ladies......try 1200ish calories .....men 2000ish. Going to the gym or working out burns maybe 500-700 calories an hour if you are really kickin it.....but it will also boost your metabolism. A protein shake within 15 mins of workout will keep your metabolism cooking longer. 3500 calories is essentially a pound.
For those of us that have dieted, the body is constantly trying to get back to pre-diet weight as it doesn't have a 'switch off' mode where it knows its carrying extra lbs. Every christmas I gain at least 10lbs and then struggle all year to lose them! Surprisingly, last trip to TTR, I lost a few lbs! I'm putting it down to swimming every day. I do laps in the pool every day to burn off some of the alcohol consumed at the sexy pool. I'm not fighting it any more. If I eat a few carbs over the weekend, I'm not going to sweat it.
