Our helicopter ride ended about 4:30 and they had just finished the archway. I would guess this is about 6:00 judging by the failing light. So about 1.5 hrs to make that progress is pretty good.

Not to be pessimistic but tearing a building down is always way faster than building a 7 story hotel. But I believe Steve if he thinks it will get done. I don't anything about the construction speed in Mexico.

Back when we started going to Cancun and Cozumel in the day, all construction was done by guys carrying a trowel, a hammer and a five gallon bucket. Large machinery was few and far between.

Now they utilize lots of machinery and this general contractor is from outside Mexico. Just might surprise us!

I was here for Hurricane Wilma in 2005. I saw how TTR (then BBG) was seriously damaged yet transformed back into a 'perfect' hotel in just 6 weeks. Also saw how the City was put back together in short order. This was around the same time as Hurricane Katrina in the US that seemed to take forever to make good again.

If the will and money is there, and I believe it is, it will be impressive to those not familiar with Mexico's practices.

It just amazes me the difference in construction H&S standards. Couple of cones and a bit of green hoarding and they're happy to get to work. Over here a demolition of that scale would require complete hoarded segregation from the public, with the demolition zone cordoned off inside the site too.

It is so sad to see these videos and pics. It's like seeing your home bulldozed. Temptation was my home away from home.

Ah well, change is inevitable, right?

At the rate the excavator with the demo hammer is going he should be in Paty'O by noon time today, then they can bring in a couple more excavators and attack the building from all sides.
