As with any law, there will be pros and cons. The fact of the mater is that nothing has worked no matter how stiff the penalties are. In the mean time the problem persists and I doubt doing nothing is better than trying something new. For as long as the first dope laws were enacted, they have been gradually failing. When the average salary of a cop in Mexico is 10x less than what they make under the drug lords payroll, there will be no way to stop it. Our law enforcement guys keep scratching their heads and realizing the futility of their efforts. For every dope bust, there's 500 loads that go undetected. True, the drug lords will move on to something else, say gambling or prostitution. Legalize them too, just like we did in Nevada. Amaizingly enough, being clark county one of the very few counties in NV where prostitution ins't legal, it's the busiest in the nation for hookers. This Mexican proposal to legalize dope will fail miserably just like any other attempt. The drug lords have a lot of pull in government and they won't let it happen. The U.S. won't let it happen either. I heard about U.N. and U.S. sanctions b4 the rummors even started.
