I fear I had the same thing in November. I got really sick and it ruined the holiday somewhat for us. We're heading back in 2 days for a do-over and I'm coming prepared this time!!

In the UK, the Dettol disinfectant spray is exactly the same as Lysol. Dettol Disinfectant Spray | Dettol

I've packed 3 cans for a 7-day stay. Not taking any chances this time!

To the OP, I found that opening the balcony door and wedging open the main door with a chair for half an hour whilst I was in the room created a wind tunnel and helped blow out the stale air. I also found taking an antihistamine helped lessen my reaction near the end of my stay.

    Lysol

Empty a can into it half when you arrive. And half 3 days later. Did the trick

On our last trip we never turned the AC on and that helped with any mold issues we have experienced in the past. Its Mexico and the climate really promotes mold. I sleep with the patio door open and leave it open pretty much all the time that always helps just lock up the valuables in the safe.

It's not an aerosol, but puts out a decent mist. Never used it on an AC before, but it should work...no harmful chemicals/odors.

With you on this, I & a couple of friends (only the males!!) suffered with really bad chests after last May, went back in September, emptied half a can of Dettol (Lyrosol) aerosol into the air on day 1 & then a short burst every day, made the room smell good aswelll. I would highly recommend

I have gotten bad head and chest congestion each and every time I have visited TTR.
I took a can of Lysol this year and sprayed it into the return air vent ( the vent that sucks air, not blows air) every morning.
I feel great, no sickness this year
