There are three types of normal entry at customs part 1. One for foeigners extranjeos, one for mexicans, and one for "diplomats or other persons with non standard entry" The third line would be closest to VIP.. HOWEVER, this is not always a good thing because the grounds for entry become much more specific, for things like tourism, you should not be travelling on a diplomatic or government passport. Customs at Cancun is incredibly fast IMO if you don't get screened. IMO though most customs places move fast unless screened. Mexico has a great system with its red light green light system. You feel like a winner either way. So yes there is but I'm not sure on things other than that the third one is the shortest line, if you get a seat near the front of the airplane you will be able to be near the front of the customs line. If you are at the back then you will be at the back. If you want pay for a seat near the front of the plane. Mexican customs has always been stellar, its is a pretty quick and painless experience. Bear in mind the smaller the plane you are on at the remotest hour will mean the faster clearance.
Not necessarily. You can be the first one off the plane, and thru INM first, but your checked luggage could be the last to show up, so you would therefore be at the end of the Customs line. And vice versa of course.
There are chips in Canadian passports now, I got mine renewed after having my last passport stolen while in Mexico. Mine was issued the end of July and it is an epassport. You need to treat it like an electronic device, it still isn't water resistant, and it is solid like a 10 year old cheese slice, very fragile way more fragile than the old ones. Price for a 5 year passport has gone up to like 90 dollars too. Also foreign affairs no longer manages passports, now citizenship does.. They say because they have the infrastructure, computers etc.. that will enable the gov to track passports better, so that less non canadians use them.
Very true. Checked bags still need to be picked up. I think normally this would mean check your bag close to the end as possible as I think they load the first ones checked first which means they come off last.
Hmm, I'm not sure if it is the same as it was the last time I was there. I went through customs yesterday, and it looks mostly the same but it looks like there have been some minor rennovations since January. So disregard what I said regarding three entry type lines. Now what occurred was basically there was someone to say where to go once you arrived as opposed to the three lines. It was very quick and very standard, the longest part is waiting for the bag to show up, and that is only a few minutes. It really is very smooth processing. None the less I was at the front of the plane on my arrival so I didn't need to wait very long, and my bag showed up in the first half. If you only travel with carry on, then you can go through customs very very fast if you are at the front of the plane. So consider booking a seat as close to the front as possible. Normally you can do this in your ticket class or as a low cost upgrade. Also the earlier you book the more seat selection you have. Bear in mind there is also bagged duty free carry on allowance.
