For decades, the oppressed citizens of this backwards Communist country have left their families behind and risked their lives to escape this hell-hole. Sounds like an amazing vacation paradise...maybe a quick stop in North Korea for an extended vacation. Cuba has done nothing to deserve the lifting of the sanctions.
Fuck we LOVE Cuba. And there is a huge difference in how happy the people are from 10 years ago. Went a couple years back and people are so incredibly happy now (2013) in comparison to now. Lovely people. Can't wait to go back. That place will always be our second home.
Just learned that the personal imports from Cuba for Americans is only allowed by those who are authorized to directly travel to/from Cuba. They had an issue with the items I brought from Mexico.
The trade embargo and travel restrictions are still in place...the announcement that came last month was just an announcement that the two countries wished to begin moving toward some sort of normalized relationship...or at least our current president does. I believe Congress will spend a lot of energy to make sure this doesn't happen. The President can't lift a trade and travel embargo in a press release. Cuban goods are still illegal in the US I have no doubt that the citizens of Cuba are friendly and welcoming people. All they know is oppression. It's impossible to value freedoms they have never had (expression, assembly, uncensored media, travel, electing a governing body, political executions, forced labor camps) - I've spoken to people whose parents managed to escape...they would never return even to visit family if it were made possible. Until Cuba moves away from their long history of human rights violations, the trade and travel embargo should not be lifted, in my opinion.
From the US you can fly into Cancun and on to Cuba today.......or from US to Canada to Cuba. And yes they have some magnificent resorts..............and as people have said.......clothing on the beaches ..........well........nada.....
