Hey Roxie, if we see ya at the airport we'll give a you a hand. We are there the same dates. My buddy was on crutches last year and he seemed to do fine for the week (fell of the stage at a club in the hotelzone..duh). There will be plenty of people around to bring you drinks so you'll do just fine...

    ditto the pool advice

    Roxie,
Maybe you've already considered these things, but as a physical therapist...I kinda feel like I should share some advice with you - take it or leave it of course :)
Sounds like if you have knee surgery next week, you're looking at less than 2 weeks before heading out on vacation? I am hoping you're just having a knee scope, not an ACL reconstruction or something? Definitely talk with your doctor about recovery and weight bearing status based on your surgery. Either way, the pool comment is legit - if you heal quickly, it'll take 7-10 days for a wound to close (if it's just a scope). You don't want to get in a pool with anything not fully healed. Also, depending on surgery, you will need to ice a lot and you may be on pain meds...so you may need to sort out how you'll do that every day. You could superglue some sandpaper to the tip of your crutches!? Maybe that would help with the slippery surfaces?
Good luck with it, if we were going the same week, I would lend a hand!

Thanks for all the information peeps! I will be having extensive conversations with my doc on Thursday - decide if it's worth the pain to put it off? It should be scopic, and everyone seems to think it's no big deal - but everything I read says crutches for a few weeks. I feel like it should be little holes...but we'll see. I'll let you know, and definitely keep in touch with those that will be there when I am!

Work in schools too, so understand the need for the break. I'm sure you will have plenty of us around the pool willing to help out and get you drinks, etc. There never seem to be a shortage of men willing to help out a damsel in distress :aktion033:

I have undergone a scope and other knee surgeries - you will be fine - just a reason for the resort to pamper you. I would never cancel a vacation except for the death or a close friend or family member.

You can elevate the knee as you enjoy the ambiance. If you doctor does not strongly object - go. You travel alone so you have to be a strong person, besdies having school children all day long - you sound like an angel.

Awww...thanks! Flatter me some more! ;)

I love vacations alone - because I talk to everyone and I'm never alone! ;)
