Crazy air fares! Timing is everything

It's crazy to see how much airfare and room prices fluctuate.We actually booked through alpharooms this year for the first time

 

I saw a deal on the flight we are on but we weren't ready to yet. The price, for a non-stop on United from SFO to CUN was only $390. So I kept hoping that something like that would come back around but the best we could was $540. Hell that's a Boobs Cruise and then some. Drat!

 

WOW!! That is an amazing deal.

 

Just got last minute seat sale air for $916 CDN (for both of us) Ottawa to Cancun...and decent flight times. Took a chance and booked the flights but can't book TTR until Monday...down side to booking as a member Mon - Fri 9 am - 6 pm only. Our dates, 24 May - 03 Jun are available on the original resorts site but would have had to pay up front at the rack rate
(vs member rate) since it was less than 30 days. Fingers crossed...

We decided to use Air Miles to fly WestJet (non-stop)from Toronto to Cancun May 23-30. The fare would have $650-ish otherwise incl. tax. The lowest fare was American Airlines (via ORD or DFW) for $495.

We're lucky to fly direct out of Toronto.
Fares vary and of course are much higher if fly from a small town and connect through a major hub (or 2)

Our Air Miles now have an expiry date so we have to use them by Dec 2016. We were saving them for Asia but they would expire by then.

We have enough for 3 more trips to CUN after May, so will use them for TTR.

DID YOU GUYS BUY THE RESORT PACKAGE SEPARATE AND IF SO WHAT IS THE BEST RATES FOR A ROOM?

 

Our 1st and only trip to TTR (Nov 2014) we became members, so for this trip we used our member rate (25% off the rack rate), booked the flight with Air Miles (just pay the taxes) and the transfers through USA Transfers.

Total was $1600 CDN for the 2 of us ! We paid $2700 in November.

If you're not a member, and can good airfare, then booking a referral would be best.

Are you guys flying out of St. John's ?
