Not really off topic, the topic just evolved.

    You're Right!

You said it more accurately. Thanks. I didn't think Florida -as someone suggested here- would be cheaper than Cancun, but in this world and world economy nothing no longer surprises me.

Cancun is many different cities, depending on what part of town you're talking about. It is possible to live cheaply here; but, as to your question quoted above, I don't think we're in much of a position to give you anything more than an expression of belief that there won't be much difference between the two, if the living conditions are comparable- which is to say that a decision whether to live in Cancun, or Playa, will probably not turn on cost of living considerations.

Cancun may be an expensive city to live for Mexico and on wages from a job here. However, it is much cheaper overall for us than living in Florida with no change in our income. Our savings after one year was in the ballpark of 50% to 60% vs what we would pay in the US.

I agree wholeheartedly with Valgunn. My electric bill at my mostly vacant FL house is more in a month than my two month bill here. I do have a pool and jacuzzi that need to keep running though and try to keep the inside of the FL house at 82 F.

Thank God I finally had an opportunity to rent it out after my child moved to NYC and I go there now for most of my US trips.

    Approx monthly costs in USD
    Water bill $5 per month
    Cell phone $100
    House phone $30
    Cable/Internet $50 or so
Bottled gas $20 per month (water heater and cooking)
Gas in my car $30 a week is about normal.
Car insurance (US plates) $30 but paid annually

Movies $4 - $5 depending on if Cinemex or Cinepolis
    VIP cine $9
    Soda/water and nachos $6 or $7 total

Property taxes - $50 per year

FM2 or FM3 costs - $150 or so per year if you do it yourself.
