Easier to build new vs remodel........on the same size footprint? Really? I do a lot of remodeling business..........trust me........much easier than new! Give me a week to 10 days and I can provide you with 3 remodeled rooms........especially if I only have to provide "mock ups" Anyway.............we have zero idea as to what's going on. I also have zero factual knowledge of this ............but the only reason I can see "true" new rooms is if a sale has been brokered....in part and the seller wants to show a /the potential buyer.......what could be possible. If these rooms are fakies........that IMO,could be the reason why. Really any speculation is just that.........speculation. Original Resorts apparently is in no hurry to end the speculation with facts. They hold the real cards............all we have is the Joker.........he's not wild........he's lame!
That's a good question. I think I read something about the current buffet restaurant being removed to expand Paty O's, add a second bar to there and the nightlife is taken care of. Then for a buffet/breakfast restaurant perhaps redevelop the area where the cigar bar is? They would have to get creative that's for sure!
The thing about this project is that is not a remodel that is needed. It needs all the building systems replaced (plumbing, electrical and HVAC) and that is no small task in a building that is constructed almost entirely of concrete block. The floors/ceilings/roofs are concrete and even the interior partition walls are HCB. The drop ceiling area over the entry and bathroom is frame and contains the AC unit and DWV plumbing but the AC has to vent hot air to the exterior somehow and the drain plumbing has to vent to the roof as well as drain to the main sewer lines and that means that it must be going through the walls as well as the pressure plumbing. So to replace the building systems they would have to gut the rooms including the interior partition walls (think jack hammers) to remove and replace everything. That is major work and will take some time. Plus, they definitely can't have guests in the wing while this is going on. I have to believe that they are smart enough to know that the resort is past the cosmetic restoration stage so that begs the question, tear it down and rebuild all shiny and new or struggle with renovating a 40+ year old concrete building? It's not like flipping a stick frame house. I'm very curious as to what the announcement is going to tell us, what the scope of work will be and how long it will take. Time is money and Diego De La Pena didn't get rich by being a stupid contractor. We'll see.
We were thinking a few sturdy handholds on the balcony, and placed around the room or against headboards would be a nice addition as well. Hell, maybe even a set of footpegs on the bed. I've often thought that was a good idea.
The cigar lounge is less than a quarter of the size of the buffet.......and there is no prep kitchen.......and way over there amid a bunch of rooms? That doesn't make sense to me!
He was one of the very first contractors to come to Cancun and build the infrastructure for the city back in 1970. He, wisely, took a good portion of his payment form the Mexican gov't in land.
The room we had last October, which we enjoyed the hell out of and would go for again, faces the construction shown. If Sarge comes knocking on our door we're not answering. :icon_eek:
