Very odd, non of the engineers I work with even have one of those?? Most just have their degrees(BS) in engineering! If you have your BS do they still make you take it there?
ahhhh thats why! Here where I work, I am concidered a mechanical engineer even though my job title is Product Engineer. I was asking around here in my department, and hardly non of the engineers have heard of it, however, I checked online and it veries from state to state, and indiana does not require one, especially if you have your BS degree and working experience as an engineer! However, sounds like a GREAT thing to have, so a big CONGRATS to him!! WELL DONE!!!!
Derrick has been working with the same Civil Engineering firm since 1986 but because he only has a two year degree SC would not allow him to take the PE. He transferred to the NC office 3 years ago and applied to take it there and because of his 20 years experience they allowed him to.
OK, not going to read through three pages of the thread but Happy Belated BD Derek, nice meeting you back at BBG in 2005 and yes apart from the F*cked up knee my foot has heeled  . Hope you had a good one. Ian
Thanks, everyone. Trina was correct - it varies from state to state but in a nut shell - I work as a Consulting Engineer for hire which requires a license. We are not even allowed to use any form of the word engineer in our title until we pass the national exam. They consider it a major violation to represent your to the public as an engineer in NC without it. Has a lot to do with our type of work and public safety. the majority of my projects deal with roadway, water/wastewater design, or storm water (flood) control. Still not sure how I passed it on the first try. I haven't done a calculation by hand since the PC became mainstream until I started studying for the Exam. Just glad it is behind me even though I keep checking the website to make sure my name is still there. It will be next week before I get it in writing.
