I heard awhile ago they stopped people climbing it due to a lady falling.....have they let people go up it again?
It had been closed due to accidents at the Castillo in consecutive months a year ago. My own question is when/if it has been reopened to the public. Here's one bulletin issued by the State of Yucatan in March 2006: http://www.saladeprensa.yucatan.gob...leccionada=Monitoreo-TURISMO&IdArticulo=64540 Here's a discussion of the incidents that possibly influenced the decision to close: http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20221
I had a student visit Chichen Itza this past Saturday. I asked her specifically if she was allowed to climb and she answered with an enthusiastic yes and described the antics of crazy teenagers climbing and sliding down the stairs on their backsides. Soooo, looks like it is open to climbers.
We have 2 authorities that close the ruins to the publc acces. INAH & CULTUR. From our guides that take people daily in tours thay say it remian closed, as well as from our workers at Mayaland Hotel. Of course they will not advice if they will allow or not people to climb the Castle.
