We usually shut off our cells (believe it or not). This time we are using a Bell Mexico add on for $45 60mins talk 200 text. Not sure though are we able to send pics through text or does that require data?

    WesnBev,
If you are in the US, My suggestion would be going to your nearest Walmart or convenience store and buying an ATT Go Phone. Most of the time you can pick a basic model up for under $20. Buy a prepaid minute card($10) and set it up for the minute by minute plan. You can text and talk plenty for a trip and have a US phone number you can give people who you want to be able to get in touch with you.

I have 4 or 5 in a drawer in my desk. We have a US only carrier so I have used this method for a while. If you let the SIM expire (that will happen if you dont add minutes every month) it is cheaper to buy a new phone, than it is to buy a new SIM Card.
