Just as everyone is saying take small amounts of $1 bills to get u thru the day and leave the rest in your safe. Beach bags is where we keep everything at the sexy pool. We just pile them on a chair with the rest of our crew.
I thought about bringing a bunch of US $1 coins this year. Last year used a ziplock bag to keep tip money in my pocket, but that was a pain.
Don't bring coins, they are much harder to exchange (maybe even impossible) than bills. Once in Mexico try to find a bunch of 20 peso notes, they are made out of a polymer coated paper that won't get soggy like bank notes from the US.
Dito that! Figure out what we need during the day and keep the rest locked in the safe then restock for the night staff!
20 peso coins are another option...I have a baggie full of them that I've received as change during our family trips south of the border. Also useful for games of "quarters."
I bring a sunglass case down to the pool each day, and keep my lip balm and dollar bills in there, inside my beach bag. Then you're not digging drunkenly around the bottom of your beachbag to find them. Of course, if you have a really big beach bag, you'll be digging around the bottom of it to find your sunglass case...:aktion034: Brian, you can always tuck the bills under the strap of your g-string Speedo. That works too.
I bought this for trip last year was big enough for camera room key smokes and some cash was perfect and water tight incase i fell in pool unprepaired or something...
Ordered 100 of them from my bank(Peso,S), 2 day delivery, avoids having to look for them down there and great exchange rate. Also ordered some 1$ American bills, they never seem to want to give more then 20 @ a time. Always find it funny they get small bills all day and can never break a 10 (same as cab,s,lol) Also if you'r by the pool and don't move much all day you can tip your server $5 (or 10 if its in your budget) in the morning, and your drink won't go empty all day.I like to think of it as ,their not serving me better but just avoiding the cheap b@$tards that don,t tip. .
They do not accept foreign coins - only paper money but it must undamaged. Even a small tear makes it unacceptable to the banks and most stores.
