I went to College in Tampa (USF) and managed bars and restaurants in the Tampa/Bradenton area for 9 years. It's a great area with so much to do. And Ybor City is a place you have to visit, not just for the clubs but also for the Cuban food, cigars, and overall atmosphere. Plus you can't beat the pure white quartz beaches on the West coast.
