Can anyone give me some specifics on the difference here? I was looking at a rental called "Mayan Palace Cancun", but get the impression that it really isn't in Cancun. Thanks
Mayan Palace Cancun as far as i know is in Playa del Carmen, about 30-40 min south of Cancun. Here is a link to the map http://www.expedia.ca/pub/agent.dll/qscr=dspv/htid=1062394/crti=1/hotel-location-map
The Mayan Palace is not in Playa del Carmen, nor is it in Cancun proper. It is closer to Playa though, than to Cancun. It is pretty much a self contained resort, being all inclusive and all. But Cancun it is not. To get to the party center area of Cancun would be about a 45 minute drive. There are better options if you want to be in Cancun. I just saw a show on the Travel Channel yesterday on the Top 10 Mexico destinations. #10 was Ixtapa and #1 was Quintana Roo, which is the state where Cancun, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen are located. Have fun,
Palace This past November we stayed with friends at the Mayan Palace. We were planning on staying with them for 3 nights and then at the Westin in Cancun for 7. When we got to the Palace our first impression was, "this is way to big". And it is. You need to take a shuttle just to get around. It's also very expensive and they have too many rules. No jogging, towel cards and on and on. The biggist bummer, a half mile of beach you can't even use, all rock. We stayed one night and checked in early at the Westin. Jimmy
Mayan Palace - Very Expensive My husband and I had 3 free nights at the Mayan Palace through my parent's time share. We only stayed one night because everything was so expensive. We stayed the rest of the time in Cancun. We also have stayed many times in Cancun and Ixtapa and love them both. Ixtapa is much smaller than Cancun. Both have good restaurants and fun bars. The water color is much prettier in Cancun but Ixtapa has the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen.
That makes perfect sense. I think I'll pass(especially considering all the other feedback about getting fleeced to death on prices since they kind of have a monopoly on the location).
